You'll love them for about 10 years then you'll hate them for the next 15. Good news is they burn in a bon fire well.

They need lots of water. You typically find them near springs and ponds. Once you get up onto dry ground cottonwoods are few and far between.
You may look into hybrid poplar

Yaupon? Shrub, but they get big in full sun.
My live oak trees grew up fast but they need water for a few years.

Chinese pistache. Grows very quick and in harsh conditions in central TX just fine.

How much are you willing to spend? That will determine what you plant. Like most have said faster growing trees don't usually last long. Any true will need water to become established. Buy the largest tree you can afford and leave a legacy for someone else. If you don't want to do that buy the biggest Vitex and plant it.

Monterrey Oak, fast growing, little water, and doesn’t get diseases like other oaks.

Red Tip Photinia. Not what you said you're looking for but make a great natural fence, grow fast & need next to zero care.

Mexican White Oak, aka Monterey Oak, aka Qurercus polymorpha would be a good choice, although only semi-evergreen in the winter. Japanese Blueberry would grow fast and provide plenty of shade but won't get anywhere near 50'

FYI, Emerald Ash Borer's (insect) have decimated the Ash tree population in the midwest/Eastern US and is heading out way.

My uncle had a problem like this years ago. His remedy was to have a new pond dug. He had all the dirt placed right where the fence was near the house that was just build and his house. When the guy asked what he was doing it for he told him he was building his new backstop for his gun range. The house and land were on the market not long after. Keep in mind there was lots of bad blood between them prior.
