    Electrical service question

I’m the process of building a new house and shop. Each will probably need 200 amps. Would you go with separate meters or run everything through one and then split?

Doesn’t matter. For me it would boil
    down to which costs less.

Is this a new place that will
Need new service(s) run to it?

Normally when installing two bases (meters) in Collin county they charge a base (meter) fee for each one. I believe it's $16.00 each here. Even with that, I would run two separate meters.

I would compare with your coop to see the cost of a single 400amp service vs (2) 200 amp ones. I suspect the 400A will cost less.

There’s really not an advantage of one over the other from a performance standpoint. Only reason it may be worth considering to separate them would be if the shop were to be used as a business and utilities costed to the business.
