    Nikon guys, lens help please.

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between these lenses?

I can't figure out what the difference is between regular IF and IF AF-S is and if it's worth twice the $$ to have the AF-S.

Just by looking it appears those cheaper ones are older and have aperture adjustment on the lens like from film cameras. You can see the numbers back by the mount end.

Thanks Casey. It looks like the main differences were the IF model doesn't have a focus motor in the lens whereas the AF-S model does. That's not a problem because I have a D7000 body.

I admit I know little about nikon. Good luck. I love my Canon 300mm.

Mike, I will take a look. But have you researched on KenRockwell.com? He may have all the answers.

The af-s lens has its own built in autofocus motor. I have a d7000 also so you can do without the af-s unless you want faster focusing. I've bought several lenses from KEH and they are a great place to buy. I try to buy LN instead of EX. I think they have a return policy, too. Not sure. Good luck.
