Default 2012 Trad Harvest Pics!

Well, a new year is once again upon us! I hope everyone had a great 2011 and wish all the best of luck for 2012.

Go shoot something with your stickbow and post up the LDP's here for everyone to see how effective we can be with our traditional equipment.

Good luck everyone! I'll see you soon.

went out this evening, was doing a little stump shooting to get warmed up for evening hunt and spied this feller. the snuffer didnt treat him very well .

sat for the rest of the evening and had a little buck with spike on 1 side come in to 15yds but never could get drawn back on him, later had doe broadside in same place but of course doe season has been closed. Oh well heading for laguna astascosa tuesday and honey creek after that so we will see what the next 2 weeks brings.

Already on here but add to the threaad.

I was invited to my friends ranch near Bowie to ring in the new year and maybe do some hunting. After filling feeders all morning (36 bags of protien) I was able to slip on my Sticks and Limbs camo and venture out. I've never been very good at stalking into bow range and after having been busted by some does I recalled the threads here about if there's been a decline in woodsmanship over the years. Now I'm trying to move even slower but still find myself moving too fast so after 2 hours and not seeing anything I decided to take a seat on the pond dam and just look around. 20 minutes go by and I see a small dark blur on the far side of the pond some 300 yard away. With the help of my binos I make out it's a Catalina goat and he's feeding towards me but at his current speed he won't make it to me before dark.
I quickly hatch a plan to sneak down under the dam and high tail it over to his direction and possibly ambush him at some pecan trees about 100 yards from his current position. It only took me around 5 minutes to cover the ground, stopping along the way to make sure he was still on the other side and wouldn't see me. As I neared the trees I was trying to figure out which side to go around for the best opportunity. My debate was that the right side would keep me in the shadows but the wind might bust me or the left side where my long shadow might alert him to my presence. I decided to go left and take my chances, I've learned the wind doesn't play fair. After going only 15 feet left I look to the right and here he comes feeding from the shadows I wanted to walk through. I'm standing out in the wide open with absolutely nothing to hide behind and he's gonna be broadside to me in a few seconds. All I could do is neal down and try to hide my short 5'5" body in the 10" tall grass. As soon as he was perfectly broadside at 30 yards I drew back to anchor, he must have seen me because he started a quick trot. I aimed at the front of his shoulder thinking he would walk into the arrow and released. As soon as the bow thumped he stopped and I hit him right in front of his right shoulder. Luckily for me he only ran 70 yards and stopped broadside again. Now I would never attempt a first shot at this distance (I don't even practice at this distance) but I had only wounded his right shoulder and felt obligated to finish what I'd started. I drew an arrow from my Arrowmaster quiver, drew back to anchor, aimed at the top of the tree he was standing beside and let the string go. The arch of the arrow was a thing to behold and it felt perfect as soon as I released it. Unfortunately I didn't acount for the wind and it hit about 20" right, right through the paunch. The arrow passed through and he didn't know what had happened so he went another 30 yards and laid down. I waited for nearly 30 minutes and snuck in to finish him off, at 10 yards I was able to put an arrow in his heart and he jumped from his bed but died in a few seconds.

I've been trying to come up with a name for my bow since I got her after last Thanksgiving. After this weekend it's official, her name's CATALINA.

Well, I got to start the New Year a little early this year! A friend of mine has a pig infested deer lease not too far from the house and invited me out yesterday afternoon (Thanks again, Kirby!). I stuck this nice sized sow about 5:15 and had her recovered by 5:30.

Kirby also stuck a little bitty pig with racing stripes but, for some reason, would not let me take his picture with it!

Good luck to everybody in the upcoming year!

See ya later,

Bisch

Congrats on the goat and hog. Enjoyed hunting with you Bisch. I was to ashamed to take a picture with the baby I shot but I bet he will be good eating. Could probably roll him up in one tortilla. Im going to go back and shoot a full sized one this weekend. Have to break in my new Blueridge.

Default New LB draws blood

Took my new ACS longbow and sat in the almost fiull moon last night. This sow came in with 3 little ones around 6:15. Got a good quartering away shot at 10 yds after waiting 20 mins. Babies started circling and squealling, missed with a judo on one of them. They were no bigger than my shoe. 30 mins later 6 more hogs arrived with the babies and i missed a 13 yd shot on one right in my tree mounted floodlight..... Batteries went dead trailing so I waited till this morning. This is what I found with a coyote standing beside it at 30 yds.
40 yds from where my light went down. Just my luck

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

The shot went in in the notch on the bottom rib cage and exited the center of the shoulder right above the small white spot. This would have been dog food for a month for my little dogs instead of one meal for a bunch of mutts.

Default Started the New Year off....

..with a double, Saturday after noon near the edge of the riding field. The hogs had torn this place up. Big time !!!
It looked like a run-away rototiller got loose and was reeking havoc.. We have seen a few hogs, both large and the smaller hogs rooting along the weed line near the edge.
The wind was perfect and the rain during the night made the approach along the field silent. Sure glad the smaller hogs paid us no attention, they would see us, we'd stop, they would start back eating and rooting totally unaware of the danger lurking just a mere 35 yds away.

My heart sank when finally I rose slowly to see where they were and saw NOTHING !! Oh man, did they see us? wind us? or just use that great 6th sense that danger was close? Slowly by slowly closing the distance with pain staking knee crawling slowness, I had reached the edge of the clearing exactly where I wanted to be.
The tall weeds were in large clumps so it made a perfect natural blind, only problem was..... I couldn't shoot through it and around the side would put me in full view. Crawling on hands and knees on the wet ground I made it to the front of the weeds and decided to use them as my background instead of a blind. All I have to do now is wait..........thankfully it was a short wait I could see and smell the hogs moving the weeds, I had already did the ansy knee movements getting the knees to dig in for the shot(you know what I mean that.... fidgety movement)

The #82 sow just walked 3 steps into the clearing and turned to root on a clump of weed that held the worms they were seeking, guess I went into auto kill mode, I do however remember thinking theres a good angle, and I see my spot, as fast being shot with a rifle the hog just dropped WHOA !!! THAT'S GREAT!
She did the back leg quiver and rolled slightly on her side !! Daaagone this bow packs a wallop, or I just put the arrow in the lucky spot and dropped it like a wet sack of Potatoes.

Don't know, don't care.... Ham Slam #1 Done !

I was still shaking when a larger hog walked out, I mean BIG !! and Tan and hairy..... but he didn't like what he saw or smelled and back inside the weeds he went.......Oh well.... Then the #117 black sow walked out and walked around the dirt napping hog without a care in the world...that was her fatal mistake........or so I thought.... the thought of death was there... but not in my arrow that sailed harmlessly over the top of her....WHAT THE....
Well, did ya pick a spot? what spot?...ahhhh. problem number one Identified !!
Now for problem two.. She wasn't spooked, but she wasn't in a shot position any more either......... more waiting.. after an hour(bout a minute in reality) she again offered the Mark shot, this time the shot was dead on the money !! Right where I was looking. She bolted into the corner of the field and went down kickin and screamin... 2 New Years day hogs and me all excited. What a Day !!!! What a Start to the New Year !!

I didn't have my camera with me (like most of the time) So in no time at all, Rick was driving along the edge of the muddy field in full 4 wheel drive with a concerned look on his face, Well..... he made it to here, so the trip back should be hopefully uneventful too.... which it was.
A quick 15 minute trip over the mountain and we were at the house and unloading hogs.

Here's a pic of the two unlucky sows that, will grace someone table in the near future (Glad he remembered to take a picture)

Now, The Tan one is on my Radar, He's big and Maybe might even grace the wall of the living room with the couple other fine trophies I have there.
