    .270 Win for coyote?

I'm planning a coyote trip to New Mexico in April. Unexpectedly came up at Christmas

I need a rifle that can be reasonably accurate at 400.

I was at this ranch a year ago and it is wide open long range shots.

I have a Tikka in .270 Win in my safe with a Weaver Grand Slam 3x-10× 50mm

I'm trying to avoid dropping $2K into a new setup in .223 .224 Valkyrie .243 or 6.5 CM

I've calculated in Strelock Ballistic Calculator all the variables

100 grain .277 caliber 0.323 BC velocity 3322 fps with RL15 52gr powder Nosler Accubond

    Most accurate load data tested

It states if sighted in 3 inches high at 100

    Zero at 300

The load above should hit 7.3 inches low at 400- see attached pics

Manageable. Laser range find landmarks during setup.

    Compared to others-

Its actually better than 6.5 CM and other smaller caliber like .243 and Valkyrie

Probably excessive overkill as far as damage.

    I'm over thinking this-

    With my handloads....

    3" groups at 300yds

I can get by with this setup?

I should not buy another rifle-

Talk me out of it please

Sure you can. I have killed a pile of coyotes with 130 and 140 grain .270 loads while deer and hog hunting.

If don’t care about saving the pelt, then send it! KAC

Yup more then enough. I was thinking of setting up a trip to New Mexico for coyotes as well. Thinking about BLM land.

270 is a wonderful flat shooting rifle and will take the air out of them coyotes at any distance.

Can’t overkill them! [emoji16] but yes it’s going to be fine for the task - not that you should ever come here to be talked out of buying another rifle...

I think it will work great, but.... you ever try a 90 bullet? Hodgdon has loads listed over 3600 fps out of a 24 inch barrel. Sounds pretty good, i have no experience with but looks interesting

Rifles is what dictates most of the accuracy. If it shoots good then go for it. I think you’re overthinking it waaaay to much. I’ve killed tons of dogs sitting in the deer stand with whatever rifle I had handy. Good luck and hopefully you kill a bunch

Reload some 100 grain bullets and knock the backs off of them if your not worrying about the pelts.
                              Hornady 100 grn. Spires
                              And some Hodgedon 414.
