I got so burned out of my regular skinner production knives I'm taking off time to make my first love and that is big knives and Bowies. These I only forged the guards and butts, but the ones I'm working on are all forged knives. Stock removal is not challenge anymore.
The first one as sold as soon as I posted it on Facebook.. I forged the guard and butt out of Damascus, and tried to make the sheath look old.
The second on is just a big pig knife, I forged the guard out of a piece of 1/4" mild steel, that one is also sold.
The last one is my favorite one, I forged the guard out of some 100 plus year old wrought iron from the gates of Ft. Hill Cemetery in Albany New York and the but I forged out of an old pick axe I know is over 80 years old. I wrapped behind the guard with raw hide, just for looks. (pics attached)
