You can surely find a well cared for older boat thatís had all the depreciation taken out of the price. There are many gems out there waiting to be found. You just need to be a little handy to fix the minor stuff that will pop up from time to time. When you are ready to move on youíll be able to sell it for what you paid (or near enough).

He gets a free one every year.

I see more old skeeters out there than anything. Lotta Stratos, lotta Ranger, quite a few champion/charger. Smoothest boat I've ever been in was a champion.

There are several very good boats out there, I ran Rangers for years, been in Tritons since 1998, if you are spending 45 K you can get a 2-3 year old fully loaded boat in several brands, these are just a few, Ranger, Triton, Skeeter, Champion, Legend, Phoenix, Charger, Bass Cat, I am sure there are more, main thing is the engine, the boats are fairly close to each other.

He probsbly gets a free one every other month! No way a nitro lasts a year the way he fishes.

Talk to me before you go buy one if you are getting a new one. I can possibly save you a few grand. I have a certificate for a brand new ready to fish z18. I believe it could be upgraded to a bigger boat.

I can't sell you the certificate directly per Nitro's stupid rules but I'm sure we can work something out through the dealership. I don't want to have to take possession of the boat if I don't have to.

Also my 2004 Bullet 21XD will probably be for sell soon.

The boats these days are all pretty close. Personally I would not be scared of an older boat if you don't plan to do tournaments regularly. At the end of the day they really are just fishing platforms.

I have had my nitro for 6 yrs and it is in excellent shape and has cashed a lot of checks for me. I take care of it and i never had any problems, but from the posts here I better get ready cause it’s about to fall apart?

I would buy one again in a heart beat!!! I could win the lotto tomorrow and I am still not paying $60k for a boat and then watch a flat bottom pull up beside me....lol.

I fished out of a Nitro years ago and it wasn't put together very well, lots of issues with the boat. Now, i think the quality is a lot better, heck KVD fishes out of one! i currently run a Skeeter FX 21LE and i'm happy with it. would i ever buy a Nitro, answer is NO! Some people swear by them, all brands have their advantages/disadvantages, and most comes down to price, looks and fish-ability.

Phoenix has adjusted their prices to fit the market now. They were a lot of boat for the money, now they are priced like everything else. Buddy of mine priced a 721 the other day and it was $73k

The new Nitros are a much better boat than they used to be. I would consider using my certificate to get a new z21 but I like going fast and a Nitro isn't going to do that.

Keep in mind that you can trick one of the "not new" boats out, like the Skeeter above, and do just about all you want to do plus some.

The deal above looks great for your price range. I'd look into that one for sure. I have been around them all for a pretty good while and in reality, they all have some issues, it's how the issues get handled that makes the difference to me in a new boat purchase, even with a newer used model that has some warranty left.

Nitro has developed a less than glamorous name but I have seen some good ones out there. I can also guarantee that when KVD's boat is being built, everyone in that factory knows, and knows the importance of that build, all hands on deck and it's perfect. Not all boats will get that level of attention in the factory, sad but true. On the other hand, in the past, at Ranger, it didn't matter who the boat was being built for, the level of attention was the same on each boat constructed, at least that is what I saw when I was there. Very good craftsmen/women in the Arkansas hills. I'm sure this is changing with the Vexus deal and BPS buyout.

Again, it all varies and there will be issues with them all. I have a buddy with a newer Skeeter LE edition and it's a great boat, now, half of his lights/fans/pumps don't work due to electrical issues but he is working on that with the dealer. Lots of cool features but they don't function, lol. He has a new Ultrex and it spends more time in the shop than it fishes. He had to buy a spare Fortrexx to keep on hand it breaks so often. Again, he gets a new boat every 3 years or so and just got a bad apple on this one, it happens.

Find one you like, do some research and pull the trigger.

Exactly what I was about to say.

Before I bought a boat, I already had my mind made up that I wanted an old/older model Champion. I was fortunate enough to buy one for $5,700 about five years ago (1988 - 18.5' - 1998 Johnson 175). I put a Minn Kota Ultrex on it last year and boom, I have the old school ride with the modern technology of the Ultrex. Between what I paid for it, shop fees, & the new trolling motor, I'm around $10,00 - $12,000 total. Of course, I'll eventually have to replace the motor, but I'll still be at half of what a new boat would cost.

He's always been a Humminbird guy, AKA Johnson outdoors, who also owns Minn Kota. I'm baffled it took him this long to switch to Minn Kota.

Just because KVD uses something definitely doesn't make it the best. Quantum rods are inferior, their reels are inferior, BPS line is inferior. It is all about the money for him, as it should be.

I would personally buy a Nitro/merc before I bought a Skeeter/sho.

I have a 93 Ranger and it is still like brand new. Most likely I will give it to my son once he is of age and go with a Basscat for my final boat. IMHO Basscat makes the best boat right now with there customer service. Phoenix, Ranger and Charger would be the next tier for me.

But look at Falcon Bass boats, they are a new company and I would rather go with them over Nitro. They may not look quite as pretty but offing a big boat for about the same price as Nitro.

Go over to this forum and do some research http://www.bbcboards.net/ that may help you to decide.

Also I am a bit bias, but if you decide you want a cheaper route you can't bet the 90's model of Ranger 300 series. Mine is a 372, been to hell and back but still looks as go as ever.

I agree with it all except for the nitro over skeeter Haha I guess that's the speed freak in me and always running a skeeter since I remember being in a boat.

I've ran just about every outboard out there and I still prefer Yamahas. The new Merc 4 stroke XS have me interested though.

$1,000 control panels that were going out left and right in Skeeters, the top cap separating from the hull on my buddies new skeeter, the welds breaking on his trailer, another buddy won a skeeter at BC championship and every light had popped out of the the trailer when they got it home, then the no oil drain plug on the SHO, super loose SHO motor mounts where the engine looks like it is going to fall off. Skeeter is literally one of the last boats I would consider.

The control panels, I get on some models, heck, i made my own control panel after I found out how much the touchpads were. Same with basscats but at least theirs only cost an arm and not an arm and a leg.

Havent had an issues with my buddies fx20 so far but knock on wood.

The EZ loader trailers were/are complete garbage but the trailers that skeeter has been pumping out of their factory are awesome. I've been lucky and the trailers that came on our skeeters were aftermarket aluminum coastlines.

Guess I've gotten lucky in the past, havent owned one with a SHO on it but ive heard the same complaints. I've only run 2 Merc Pro XS and they were great, everything else I've run was a Yamaha 4 stroke non sho and the series 2 vmax

One of my favorite parts about Bullets is the toggle switch controls. Touch panels are stupid.

I have a 2004 Nitro NX898 with a Mercury Optimax 225. I have never had one issue with this boat. If I was to buy another new boat I would go back with the Nitro Z21 with a 250 on it. I do have the Intercoastal edition which means I donít have carpet and stainless hardware and a Galvanized trailer. I have been thinking about a new boat but why do I need one. The one I have has zero issues and no PAYMENT.

Just sold my nearly 10 year old skeeter a month ago and it was the best boat I have ever owned. No problems whatsoever the entire time I owned it. If I was going to be buy a bass boat it would be a ranger skeeter or basscat. **** sure wouldn't have a merc on the back!!

For the money you want to spend like others have said look around and find you one hell of a deal on a used one. Wouldn't buy a nitro.
