How many on this board went to college (a private school) with ZERO federal student funding?
If you went to A&M you went to a govt welfare school.
That was the whole thing about Land Grant schools.
A huge form of welfare to enhance the education and lifestyles of the populace.

I bet in 1862 there were folks just like you complaining "how will we pay for all these schools you're going to bankrupt the country!!!"
But 150+ years later the country is still standing and aTm, LSU and MIT (can't forget about Cornell) are all thriving.

There are reasons we have minimum GPA requirements for federal student aid.
Free = the student does not pay anything out of pocket.
