Scope mounting question

I am changing from a 3x9 32mm to a 4x12 40 mm scope on a older 30-06 Rem BDL
What size scope rings do I need to order to ensure clearance?

Just off the top of my head I was thinking medium too. I always like to get mine as low as I feasibly can. Midway has a somewhat handy chart. You can use their height suggestion from the chart and compare that to the manufacturers specs on the ring heights, if you can find the manufacturers specs printed somewhere.
