Just stag. He's about like me on the Tahr and chamois. No interest. He's going to be there for another week. Wouldn't surprise me if he didn't try for a fallow if they're reasonable.

Congrats to him. I'm jealous. HuntForHorns and I were trying to get a specific NZ stag hunt purchased at a couple of auctions and it didn't work out. I am seriously very jealous. Do you happen to know what outfitter he is hunting with?

Oscar, he's bowhunting. That's all we do unless it's pig eradication or coon population control. LOL

He was able to go on the hunt as a gift from Jerry. Bobby does a lot of stuff for them on the Junco bsides guiding and filling feeders. It was kind of an appreciation hunt, I believe. All I know right now is that Jerry said it was a good one. Probably under 400 inches though because Jerry's only paying up to a point. LOL

I don't know any of the specifics of the hunt as to who or where other than NZ. I'll get the poop when he gets home.

Got another email. They don't have time for a story because they are rescoring the possible new no. 2 archery stag. I KNOW it's not my brothers. He's not spending that kind of money. Maybe Jerry's? I guess we'll wait and see. It should be getting dark there now?

Still no pics. Jerry did send an email with specifics. 22 points. 387 5/8. I also know he got it with a 3 blade Rage, 60 lb Allegiance, and maxima 350 arrow. Yardage or other specifics will have to wait. They also said they misjudged it by 30 inches. He may be broke now. LOL

For a 387" stag the answer is alot. I know that I worked a deal with the guy that HuntForHorns and I were trying to book with and the best I could do was a stag up to 340" for $4,900. That was a 3 day hunt in a nice lodge and included my wife coming along as a non-hunter. Flights to NZ can be found pretty easily for $800 or so depending on what your final destination is. I figured that by the time I paid to fly over, paid for the hunt, spent a couple of days after the hunt and shipped my cape and horns home it was going to cost me at least $8,000 plus taxidermy. That was keeping it all on a pretty tight string money wise. All in all I really figured it would end up costing me $10,000 including taxidermy for a 340" or smaller stag. Prices increase quickly when you start getting into bigger stag.

I also have to point out that the outfitter that we were looking at had a very nice lodge which was important to me as I was planning on taking the wife along. I am sure that you could rough it a little bit more and knock off a little bit but it seems like they are all around the same price.

Just got off the phone with Bobby. Wanted to make sure we got the protein for the Junco ordered. Didn't talk but just a second. He's after a fallow now. He said his was a monster. He said Jerry's look like a prehistoric monster and may be the new no. 2 archery stag. He said when they get a chance, they'll send pics. Personally, I can't wait. If he doesn't send pics pretty quickly, I may have to fly over there and kick his hiney. I guess I'd take my bow. LOL

RDRDr...just an FYI...$4900 for a stag up to 340 is WAY over current market.
And with the new regs, you can fly back with your horns and cape AND 50 lbs of meat!
Headed back in June to guide a couple of hunts then break of a piece of something fun for me!

387 is a heck of a stag! They must REALLY like your brother!

Yeah, like I said, I could have gotten it a little bit cheaper but I looked at ALOT of different outfitters and wanted one that I knew my wife would enjoy. There weren't any that had the comforts that I needed for my wife for less money.

"Honey, I've got to run over to New Zealand to kick my brother's butt. Could you pack my huntin' clothes?"

Sounds like the story I used to tell my wife in my heathen days when I'd come home way too late. "Honey, my brother was down in the dumps about a fight with his wife and I just had to stay and comfort him."

Sounds pretty lame, but I've used 'em both.

I need to kill an elk first and maybe a caribou, but a stag is something I'd love to kill. I don't have anywhere to hang one, but I'd like to kill one. LOL

Heck, a elk & caribou take up the same amount of room Doc. Just bust a hole in that ceiling and add on.

Well, it's not that there's no room, actually. Just convincing the wife to LET me hang more might be the problem. We have this big ol' Texas star over the fireplace. I have my axis on the brick at the hearth waiting for the right time to hang it. Now if it were me, I'd take that star down and put him there, but there's not much worse than getting on the blonde's bad side. LOL I also have two big places to the right and left of our high ceiling. Mailman and I are planning on putting the axis on one side when the blonde is off on a trip or something. We may have to hide the ladder so she can't do anything about it when she gets home. I want to put my 3 150's on the high ceiling, but that would go over my limit of 6 animals on that wall. That may be something that takes another sneak attack. I've almost filled up a wall in the garage with my older and smaller heads. I may have to quit hunting I guess. LOL

He's home and finally sent me a pic. Said he shot it at 42 yards slightly quartering away and it went a little over 40 yards before piling up. He used a 3 blade Rage.
