I like those square body chevys I’ve had seaveral of them ranging from 1978-1987 model
I prefer the 87 models over the earlier models because in 87 they went to fuel injection
It’s easy start up on cold mornings. Also the hoods can tend to crease in middle on the earlier models like 78-80’s if their hinges get in a bind. But do like all those square body years of Chevy ! IMO they’re Last of the great 4wd chevys

Yes sir, last of the real trucks. Be it Dodge Chevy or Ford, it has all went down hill from there.
I agree that red and white is just stylish. Probably a custom job, but saw one in baby blue.... had hot sweats.

My 87 is red center stripe gray in bottom and top.
Looked forever for a short bed ended up with a long bed and glad I did. One of these days I'm going to have a crew cab rebuilt from ground up with a cummins. One of these days.

My first truck, in '95, was a '81 short wide, solid sky blue, no molding GMC. Miss that truck now. Learned a lot about mechanics with it. Changed a motor, 2 rear ends, 3 transmissions, several starters and alternators. Most of the parts I replaced came from a junk yard...... probably the reason I got so much practice changing them! It was a piece of junk, but I was proud of it. The sound system was the best and probably most expensive part of it. Good luck OP, there's plenty of room under the hood to work on things without wires and plastic shrouds in the way.

I had a 83 long bed. Red with tan in the middle. Liked the looks. Lost transmission at 30k miles. 305 was a dog. Frame cracked at steering box. Religiously changed oil at 3500 miles, engine was a piece of crap at 110K. Brakes were so so. Always had trouble making emissions. Couldn't haul more than 500 lbs without squatting it down.

Had a 77 big 12 that was like a 3/4 ton. Ran it for 500k miles, only put 2 engines and one transmission in it (turbo 350).

Lets face it. Chevy and the others didn't make the trucks to last. Engines had a hard time getting more than 100k until they got fuel injection and the one piece rear main seal. And look at today, they routinely get 300k without major repairs.

The 2 greatest advances in my lifetime are electronic fuel injection, and total electronic engine management. That being said, I hate both of them because the average shade tree guy like me doesn't know how to work on them. I probably could have learned, but I spent those years learning to work on large tonnage a/c equipment so I could make a living doing something I enjoyed.

I like the looks, like the 67 to72, and the 40 and 50's better.
