Here I sit with a rifle on a meat hunt hoping to shoot a doe and one of our target bucks jumps in the pen. He hung out 15 yards from the tripod im usually sitting in with my bow. Had the crosshairs on him but kept debating myself until he left. I may regret that one...

Im stupidly stubborn about not taking a nice mature buck unless I can shoot it with a bow. Evidenced by the fact that I very rarely take a nice mature buck

I went through this a few weeks ago. It all took place in less than a minute.

Tagged my first buck with a rifle in 10 years or so

I’d do the same thing. To me it’s bow or nothing when it comes to trophy bucks.

Yeah I’m just not having much luck so far this season. The only deer I’ve had in bow range have been young bucks and a yearling doe or two. I will stay after it all season

Don’t understand why if you are this dedicated you would pick up the rifle at all then. Good luck on him though!

Im confused....why cant you do your doe patrol with your bow from your bow set? Why did you go with a rifle in a rifle blind to start with? No hate, just curious.

I’ve been bow hunting since October and have not had a shot - even at a doe. There just aren’t many deer around here. I really want to kill one to eat next weekend and I can cover more ground with the rifle

A goal is something you strive to attain regardless of the challenges it presents. If your goal is to shoot a mature buck with your bow, then you did right by not settling and shooting it with your rifle IMO.

If you had, then you would be more upset and disappointed with yourself for not staying the course.

The best things in life very rarely come easy, and I applaud your decision to hold out. You will make it happen the way you want it to happen!

I wouldn’t call it stupidly stubborn. I’d call it determined.
