Diamond backed water snake. Ornery but non-venomous.

Not sure if it is dead or not. My wife saw it this morning in the flowerbed. Cats might have caught it and brought it up to show us. They like bring dead things to us.

                Good snake, not venomous.

You can not always go by the pupils, these are all venomous snakes:

To the best of my knowledge the only venomous snake we will encounter that has round eyes will be the coral snake, the only other type of venomous snakes we have are pit vipers which all have the cat like eyes.

Snake in the picture is a diamond back water snake. He will bite you and be aggressive but he is not venomous.

True. But there are two non-venomous snakes in Texas that don't have round pupils. The Lyre Snake and the Northern Cat-Eyed Snake.

That's the only copperhead pic I've ever seen with a round pupil--strange!
