    Leupold VX-5 vs Swarovski Z3

    Hey all,
Assuming same power setting (let's say 6x) which scope produces the best image and color rendition in low light (still legal shooting hours, but just barely).

    Thanks

Also, assuming both can be picked up for about the same price

        Leupold VX-5 vs Swarovski Z3

I love Leupold but they are not in the same league as Swarovski in regards to glass.

The only reason I would pick the Leupold over the Swarovski would be if you plan to dial with the turrets a lot.

I should also add, I currently have both Swarovski Z3 & Z5 as well as Leupold VX6 so I have experience in the field with both.

Instead of blindly throwing a brand out there I’d suggest hitting your LGS and talking the salesman to take both to the front of the store or even outside and seeing for yourself which looks better to your eye at that time of day. Fluorescent light looks very different than sunlight/ambient light. Your chances of doing that versus talking to someone who has actually looked through both at dusk are much higher IMO.

Otherwise if you want blind opinions I say VX-5 cause I have one and love it.

              Sierra,
Not going to happen in my neck of the woods.

What is the glass difference between a Z3 and Z5?

None that I’m aware of. Just 3x magnification adjustment vs 5x.

                  None as mike D said.

The glass is just much better on the European scopes.

The glass on the Z3 is noticeably better than my VX6.

Better low light performance, sharp and clear all the way to the edge, everything just “pops” better. Ugh, I can’t even believe I just used that term.

Mike , do you think for hunting purposes the Swarovski is a better choice?

Any thoughts on the Leica ER 5 scopes? Can get a 2-10x50 for $500 shipped.

I really like the Leicas and as you've already found out, there are some great deals going on right now.

Looks like the Swarovski is cheaper too. The glass is really better on the Swaro?
