Really like my waterloo. Next rod will probably be fishstix though.

I've been a shimano guy my whole life. But i tried a new daiwa about a year ago on a cyber monday deal, i know own 3 daiwas.

Honestly reel preferences are so subjective.

Have you thought of just getting him a custom rod? Fishstix, billystix, sarge, there is a ton of great builders out there. And he could add his own reel.

Depends on how nice... revo sx is a very solid option for like $129. Revo rocket goes on sale for lik e $200 when its $300+ normally
