Anyone have sugestions for a late starter. I would like to hunt public land near Austin. Bow or gun just needs to be within short distance from where I live. I noticed that most of the WMA's are special permit draw what does that mean?

Means all you can do for now is show up for a stand-by. You can call the WMA a couple days before the hunt and see how many stand-by positions they will have. Then if there are more stand-bys than what they have open for, they will have a drawing between the stand-bys. If I had a place right here, I'd tell ya to come on. I'm about 1 1/2 to 2 hrs from Austin. But my place is 3 hrs east from here, about 5hrs for you.
