I don't want anyone to think I am trying to pull the "O woe is me".

I have been to several Bownanzas, but this was the first that my oldest and I have been to where we both could drink and have fun. I really wanted to try some of the other foods and I see some friends that were there, but I didn't make an effort to leave to go see them. It is entirely my fault. I should have made a better effort to get out.

I do like the idea though, as it would give everyone a chance to get out. Maybe I should have just asked someone to bring me some of the other foods.
No worries, we have a whole year to plan it out.

One other thing of note, I think we should set up 2 big canopies that way we can spread out a bit more.

I didn't take it that way at all. Just brainstorming for next year. I had a great time and I am already pumped for next year! I like the idea of another canopy. I'll look into buying one like Greg's this year so we have two.

One a side note, I didn't know y'all had to drive back that night. Man if I had known y'all could have stayed with us. We were at the Hawthorne and had 2 queens and the first part of the suite had a living room area with it's own kitchen area and tv with a couch that had a fold out bed and some chairs with ottomans and it was seperate from the bedroom area by a door if you wanted some privacy. I'da offered to let y'all stay with us too and you coulda picked the living room area or the bedroom area.

No worries. I know you weren't saying that. And yes I am brain storming for next year too. I already have 2 10x20 canopies, so that is covered.
As for the room, thanks I really appreciate the offer. However I really wanted to go home, sleep in my bed and I really needed to go to church. So that is what I did. Next year however, I think I might look into getting a room.

I like the ideas and I think we all should keep them coming.

Guys, Mary has started a thread regarding the size needed by each team in the parking lot for next year, I think they are going to try and organize the team placement a little better... Check it out and give your thoughts, I have already given mine...

Bud, I saw what you posted and I think that may be right. If you figure a parking spot is about 8x20 , we'd be looking at approximately 24'x40'.

I have 2 10x20 canopies, that were not even used. We have the 10x20 that was used, and I think there was mention of another 1. That would give us 20x20 covered. On a bad weather year, that may not be enough, but I think there were other canopies. If we could keep them held down, then it might be just right. It would be nice to have some area to set up tables and chairs to eat on. However on bad weather years, there never seems to be enough room. I think the 6 spots, 3 back to back will work.

I agree with y'all that 6 spots should be enough space.

I do have a question though and want to see what y'all think. If we go with 3 back to back that means moving to the middle of the parking lot versus the perimeter. If we do that we lose the option to overflow out into the grass like we did this year and then we are confined to just our section. What do y'all think about staying on the edge versus moving to the interior? Any negatives to staying on the edge in 6 linear spots? It was my first Nanza so I can't compare to setting up on the inside versus the outside. Thoughts?

my only desire for change would be to add the 2nd large canopy and perhaps move more towards the Ribs team (simply for the fact that we can talk some BBQ trash with them, lol)

I would think that staying on the edge would be nicer, but I think we are flexible to make it work any way we get it

In the past (at the other location) I recall having bad weather and everyone gathered under the pavilion... So, assuming that at the new park there is a huge pavilion, I wouldn't consider rainy weather a major issue except for cooking and team members to get under while doing so???

It seems they wanted all of us to stay on the outside this year, to make a horseshoe, so that everyone gathered in the middle... Which would allow everyone overflow on the outside edge of the horseshoe... Hope that makes sense, they made a map in the 2013 forum before nanza this year with a layout... Should give you an idea of what they wanted..

Also, Mary started a new thread that I linked to earlier... Looking like they don't want parking on the interior parking (the one the tents are set up in) lot either...

Okay, I gotcha now. The horseshoe idea would be perfect then for overflow on the outside edge. I believe y'all are right, 3 x 2 would be plenty.

I would suggest not putting the firepit upwind from the canopies.

I second the idea of mini teams to seperate whos jobs are who's.

I had an extra canopy but was told we did not need it. Does anyone know why we are not alowed to set up in the grass? Would be alot better for staking down the canopies.

Don't drink till 2am the night before...I was super late, next time I wont be late....Sorry bout that guys.

What do y'all think about doing the rub and marinating Friday night when a few of us get there. That way as soon as the pit is fired and ready we can get the chickens done sooner. I know Friday night is drink and hang out night but I'm jus thinking of a faster way to get the chickens done faster so we all can eat and hang out on sat. As far as size goes 2 10x20 I think would work out fine.

We always marinate ours the night before. I think that helps with the flavor a bunch.

It was nice meet-n a bunch of you new fellers Friday night. That Yeti just kept producing them for yall .

Looks like I missed meeting Russ and Damian . I wish I had known yall were there. I didn't get out till all the fish, tators, and ribs were deep fried. So I missed a lot of food, including yalls. Maybe I shouldn't work at it so much .

I still have the banner and some rub.

My biggest suggestion is we need to start earlier. I know they only take about 2 hours.....but that never seems to actually happen that way. Also we need a schedule of workers. I'd like to get away from the cooking for a bit and meet some friends.
