Nice! I like my pack and am sticking with it but it’s always fun to look and I’ve been admiring that Kifaru! I bet you really enjoy it.

Starting to think of my sleep system again, last year I decided to change from backpack camping to base camp. this ended up shortening my hunt as I was climbing 1700 ft to start each day and who knows how much up and down after that. Before that I was a hammock camper and before that ultralight backpacker. I think I am going back to the ultralight gear. New gear is tempting but I already have so much. I have a few 1.2 silnylon tarps so am thinking about just tarp camping. I also have a HS Tarptent Stratospire 1 and a Shangrila 1. Each of these has some advantages guess I could go on a July / August scouting trip to evaluate them again.

Hope you guys all did great at your local REI as well.
When they drop Vista outdoors in thier Antigun stance, I’m called in and canceled it.
When you break down what they actually give in conservation money and where it’s **** near fraudulent and zero goes to habitat conservation.

Alright, so here's my working pack list for OTC September elk in Colorado. Some gear is subject to change, but I'm mostly working with what I've got and will upgrade after this year. This is my first year going in the backcountry, and I plan on taking a trip or two every year for the perceivable future. Going to Idaho for muley's with my brother in 2020. Maybe going solo Arizona Deer in January.
Haven't quite decided on the pack, but I'm leaning to the EXO 3500/5500
Anyway, what do you think? Anything I should leave? Anything missing?

Drop the sleeping bag liner for CO, you can wear you base layer to bed if you get cold or your puffy. I’d look at a different pant. I run prana Zion now for last 4 years, well since when ever Columbia bought them.
I’m a fan of gaiters except for Jan Archery NM/AZ Mulies, counter productive to dropping boots and tip toeing in.
I also don’t take bino’s in for Archery CO elk. My rangefinder is 7x

I would take one 3L water bag and your platypus. I’ve never had trouble finding water in Colorado.
I would drop the rain pants unless they are super light packable ones.
Drop the soap and brush.
Drop the bag liner.
Other than that looks good.

Sleeping bag liner would be weather dependent in most cases, but it packs super small and weighs nothing. Colorado early season, probably not, but will definitely have for Idaho.
The brush and soap are for cleaning the GSI cup after eating mountain house or something. I don't really want to pack out nasty used food bags, and will most likely re-pack dehydrated/freeze dried meals in ziplock bags. But, I'm inexperienced so I will definitely keep looking at things.
Thanks again!Last edited by Jared.King; 04-12-2019, 12:13 PM.
