    Cabinet Painter Katy/Houston

Starting to get quotes to paint the cabinets. Going to compare against buying an HVLP and doing myself.

Anyone do this or have someone to recommend?

I've got a great guy who's working in my house right now. He's reasonable but if you're comparing it to doing it yourself you're not going to find anyone cheaper than you. LOL!

IMO in the end you’ll kick yourself in the butt for not paying someone to do it . Can you do it probably but trust me pay someone ..

Full disclosure - I'd rather have someone do it as well. I have 2 quotes so far. The first one (from a cabinet "specialist") made me spit out my coffee.

The second was more reasonable, but I questioned a little bit of the capacity to really pay attention to detail.

I realize that painting is definitely a get what you pay for thing. But I can't justify paying someone to paint the small amount of cabinets we have twice what it's costing to install granite counters throughout my entire house.

A good painter can make decent cabinets looks really good.

A so-so painter can make really nice cabinets look awful.

          Just food for thought.

Use break through by ppg or multi-surface acrylic by Sherwin-Williams.

              If you do it yourself

Average size kitchen should run roughly 3500 including materials....We use Sherwin Williams oil primer and oil paint for cabinets....We spackle holes and then lightly sand with 150....Oil primer next...Sand again this time with 220 and then caulk....Then 2 coats oil paint....

Problem I'm gonna have is the owner before me painted the cabinets with a latex (comes off with alcohol).

Yea that can be problematic....We have painted over latex before but it's a little longer process....You'll have to sand what loose latex will come off and then wipe it down probably a couple times with Paso or another good deglosser.....Then same process as above....
