Glad she will continue in her way. Phillip, what route are you going to take down south? You might pass by Bob's shop on the way.

We'll pick up I-10 in Alabama and then 59 south out of Houston. Unfortunately we won't be anywhere near Bob's shop. I do want to go by Bob's shop on one of my trips to Texas, I probably shouldn't since I already have too many trad bows. I know, I know, there's no such thing as too many trad bows.

Okay everyone,

Our bow is fixed and should be on it's way or will be soon back to Phillip. Phillip make sure Bob has your address if you have not done that already.

The repairs were unfortuately expensive, actually the repair cost about the same as the original price. Anyway, I love this concept and it has been my baby from the start. I have sent a check to Bob for the full cost of the repairs.

The new limbs are 47 lbs and we are back in business.

I am not asking you guys for funds. I don't want the people on the second list, or anyone else for that matter to feel obligated. That being said...a few of you have contacted me and wanted to help with the cost. That will be fine, and I appreciate it, but it not a requirement. LIke I stated above, it has been covered, but if you want to send a few bucks.

My snail mail is

Mark Johnson
28397 May Rd
Splendora, TX 77372

I have a paypal account as well, I think you can find me by my e-mail

marknjohnson_77@yahoo.com

May the adventure continue.

Mark

I may of missed it, but what are the pre-requistes to get on the list. I am interested in being on the list but I have not been a member for as long as everyone else. I am willing to pay toward the repair or do whatever I need to go to get on the list.

The current list is set and we are on #3 out of 20. When this list is nearing the end Mark will start another if there is still interest in keeping this bow travelling. You just have to keep checking in on the Sacajawea thread and watch for updates.

I received Saca back in my hands today. She looks great and I can't wait to shoot her, it may be tomorrow before I get a chance and we're going down to NC tomorrow. I'm almost gunshy over shooting her.

Ok, I strung her up and took her outside for a few shots. She shots sweet but I think my arrows are a bit too stiff. The lightest arrows I have are some Grizzlystick Sitkas I set up for a 49 lb A&H ACS. They have 125 grain field points. I think I've got some heavier field points in my archery box that I'll give a try.

Even though I didn’t get to hunt with Saca, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with her and can see a Sarrels bow in my future. I just need to visit Bob’s shop and shoot some more of his bows so I will know which one I need.

About me:

I was born near the small town of liberty, NC in 1946. I did not come from a hunting family but spent my childhood roaming the woods on our farm and the neighboring farms. I made bows out of hickory and played with them. At about 13 I got my first store-bought bow, a fiberglass Shakespeare long bow with which I took my first kill, a cottontail. My next bow was a Bear Kodiak Magnum I bought new in 1971. I still have both of these bows. I bought a compound bow about 1987 and shot compounds until about 1995 when I went back to Traditional equipment.

I have been making annual trips to Texas to hunt pigs and javvies since about 1999 when Jeff Massie talked me into coming down. For the last 10 years or so my lovely wife Nancy has been accompanying me. Most years I have friends and/or relatives join us.

I have been fortunate in being able to hunt in many locations. I have been to Africa twice. I have also done a couple of drop camp hunts in Alaska. I have also hunted in Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Kansas , and North Dakota.

Among the animals I have taken with Trad equipment are: various small game, Whitetail, Bison, Pronghorn, Bobcat, pigs, javelina, Red Hartebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Black Wildebeest, Kudu, Gemsbok, Impala, Blesbok, Bushbuck, Warthog, Waterbuck, and Vervet Monkey.

I graduated from High School in 1965 and joined the USAF. I came home from Vietnam in December 1967 and was stationed in Florida. In April of 1968 I had a motorcycle accident and lost my right leg below the knee and was medically retired from the Air Force. I started college and between college and working graduated from North Carolina State University in 1976 with a degree in Business Management.

I married Nancy in February 1970 after having known her only 6 months. I guess it will last since we just celebrated 44 years together. We have a son and a daughter, 3 grandsons and a granddaughter.

In 1983 Nancy and I took the 2 kids, then aged 6 and 10, to Alaska. We took 2 months and drove up. We camped along the way, and on the 60+ day trip only spent 8 nights in a motel. We saw lots of country along the way and caught fish in British Columbia, the Yukon, and Alaska.

I spent most of my working career working for the federal government. I have worked as a Wage and Hour Compliance Officer for the Department of Labor, an Investigator for the Office of Personnel Management, and a Special Agent for the Motor Carrier Safety Division for the Department of Transportation. The last 25 years of my career was spent as a Contracts Officer and Small Business Specialist with the US Navy, in Virginia, where I negotiated contracts for navy ship repair. I retired in May 2010.

I am in the process of getting things ready so I can move back to the Liberty NC area.

Would love to do that, but its a long ways from Liberty, NC to Texas. Some day I'm going to make a trip to Texas to just hang out with the friends I've made on TBH.

Ok saca has been shipped and will get to him no later than wednesday. Im sorry to everyone patiently waiting, its been pretty hectic around here the past couple weeks.

Alright Heres my bio.
My Name is Ian Sumrall, im 18 years old and i am a senior in high school, well for another three weeks anyway haha. I have been hunting ever since my dad could tote me to the deer stand and i could glass deer with him through my batman toy binos that i got in a happy meal at mcdonalds. Well his hobby of taking me to the deer stand quickly turned to my obsession. I didnt want to do anything else but sit in a deer stand or prepare for the season ahead. Every little thing to do i wad right there beside them, whether it be to fill feeders or plow the land to provide forage for the whiteail. I killed my first deer when i was 7 and have killed several since. I started bowhunting when i was 12 and have killed several animals since then. My interest in the amazing thing called trad hunting sparked about this time ladt year when i watched one of my buddies stick a 300 pound boar with his recurve and i have been hooked and messing around with it ever since. I AM PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THAT I KILLED MY FIRST TRAD ANIMAL EVER WITH SACA!!!!

We went to a buddies ranch in madisonville where they are absolutley overrun with hogs. We planned to spot and stalk at night when it cooled down a little and i was determined to get one with saca so i left my wheel bow at the house. I have been practicing since the day i saw the box at my doorstep and i felt really confident. When we turned out to go walk the hayfields at about 10 pm we had no idea what was abouy to happen. Pig sign was everywhere that night, the wind was still and it was dead sileny except for the occasional song dog a few miles off. Walking down the woodline bordering the hayfield that was lit by a light on my buddies bow, we began yo smell that familiar musty smell that everyone knows as pigs. We knew we were getting close so i knocked an arrow tipped with a 125 gn landshark. We stopped and focused the light about 125 yards in front of us and there they were. About 19 to 20 pigs were intently feeding on the hayfield and had no idea we were there or what was in store. We took our boots off and slowly started at them hugging the woodline and sticking to the shadows. Talk about feeling like an indian haha. We got up to 30 yards and realized they were walking right towards us so i took shelter right behing a small shrub while my friends stayed behind about 10 yards shining the light. About 5 thirty pound pigs passed me at 25 yards but i didnt want to take the shot. And then out of nowhere this beast of a hog, spotted black and white walks in gront of me at 10 yqrds. My heart was beating 90 to nothin as i pulled the string to my face. I had to control my shakes and get my composure thennnn THWACK!! Snuck my arrow right behind his shoulder low and tight. I knew it wad fatal mainly because he ran about 25 yarda and piled up in the hayfield. We were allecstatic and giving high five and congrats. But wait. It wasnt over those three pigs i guess didnt hear us and came back within 20 yards and my friends luckily had arrows nocked. I crouched behind them holding the light and they both did a countdown and smoked two of them at 20 yards. This was the most insane hunting exoerience ive ever had. We werent even in the field for 30 minutes and we got a triple including my first trad kill. Thank you so much to chunky For starting this up and letting me have the oppurtunity to have this experience. It was amazing.
