Kid is a vacuum!
We have two 12U teams and Clay is coaching the other team. The organization is growing pretty good and from what I can tell being my first year is that they are a lot cheaper than the other organizations and that draws a lot of kids over. Scott and Keith have been very helpful getting me settled in and helping me out. We are looking at having a really good season.

Jshouse- do yourself a favor and plan a 2-3 day vacation or cruise with the wife. Not much vacation on these tourneys. Maybe a day off but we usually met and hit/three took infield And glen everybody did something together. Wasn't a lot of feet in the sand margarita in hand

Also. Easiest for me was skip the fundraisers. Opt out. Go work overtime and pay out of pocket. If you break the fundraisers down to hourly you don't make much

Lol yeah we did a team garage sale this fall and it was a TON of work for everyone getting it set up and getting everything to one location and we all walked with about $200 per family. Not worth it.

We did do a raffle for our 9u fall though, with a gun And yeti cooler and were able to get our entire fall paid for, about $1000.

I refuse to do fundraisers of any sort. If the team needs another $200 per family just tell me and I will gladly pay it

I will say that the fundraisers will help some families. If they don't have resources to make xtra money fundraisers will help. I will go sell firewood or go work overtime

Cooter. We use to look for a place that was a vacation spot. Now we try to find someplace close to fields that tournaments will be played at.

Our team is slacking at the moment - Still need to fill out the roster. Wish the logistics worked out to where we could go a little further, but with 4 kiddos it just doesnt allow.

First tournament schedule for volleyball has begun, and cheer is in full force.

Have our first team meeting the first of Feb. Supposed to discuss the fundraising stuff then. Our get away tourn. will be in Gulf Shores it looks like.

Have started regular fielding and such and crazy impressed with the little guy. Worried about his bat, but need to get those reps going.

Yep and these are easy. We also do March Madness. The big one that will be new to us is a Golf Tournament. I try to do things that at the very least, have a chance to be rewarded.

The one I didn't do this year and should have was the $50 per square 100 square season pot that pays $25 per quarter over the duration of the entire football season for whatever team you choose.

It alone nets nearly 3k.

Any secrets you have for breaking in mitts? Other than just playing a lot of catch. We have a new mitt this year as well. I've always done one treatment of hot glove to start the process.

I (santa) got him a marucci honor the game and man it was stiff as a board! His coach does pitching lessons pretty much every day and we have let him use it for 3 weeks, he said it isn't perfect yet but it's loosened up a ton. My son will be there tomorrow to catch during some lessons to see how he can handle it.

When we first got it I put two balls in it, closed it, and put under the bed with the weight of the bed on it, we left it like that for over a week and it helped loosen it up and also started to form the pocket. I watched a few videos on YouTube and they said don't close and "flatten" it out, make sure you keep a ball or 2 in it to form the pocket.

When we get it back tomorrow I am going to put a little Nacona oil on it and try the bed thing again.

Yea, I've been wanting to bring him to an auto batting cage and just let him catch about $20 worth of balls..

I've had a ball in his and wrapped with a belt for a couple of weeks now. It will get there eventually just trying to speed the process. We had our first tournament this past weekend and luckily he didn't need it. Although he has his Marucci mitt that is already broken in. Just a little too big.

you have to work the crap out of it too.. unwrap , oil it, and beat the hell out of it with a bat/club.
Dicks has a steamer and will do it for you.

I took an old bat and cut it off about a foot long and used a lag bolt to screw an old baseball to the end of the bat handle. It works well and makes the break-in a lot faster.

I put the boys brand new Mizuno prospect in the drier..(*got the idea from a few different sources, all youth/collegeball organization related).
it actually worked very well... still did the workout with the club, and oil and wrapping with softball in the pocket... he's using it now and seems to be ok...

I've been using the Hot Glove treatment ever since my boy started playing and have never had any issues. This requires to put the glove in the oven. I know a lot of people wont do it but it really helps the break in process.

I know a couple of kids that "work out" with the upper teams (AAA, Premier, etc)...while maintaining their spots on their lower team... doesnt hurt to get the boys name in those circles..

How much are yall paying monthly for yalls monthly dues? For lets say a 10,11,12u team. I have seen prices all over the place and some with coaches who don't have MUCH experience at all or great knowledge of the entire game.

I have seen them go from $100-275 a month with everything included.

Like Chad said, VRBO. We went for 8u and stayed at the gulf shores surf and racquet club, it was about what I expected for the price, which wasn't bad at all. It's across the street from the beach and has a "private" area of the beach for people staying there. I would do it again, but I'm also one that can't spend big money on a really nice place.

We really weren't there very much, with games everyday and going out to the beach and out to eat etc...

Some of our parents all stayed together in a big house on the beach and it was super nice.

We played our games in Foley, about 20mins away, and the complex sucked. Fields were decent, not nearly what we expected, and had ZERO shade.

We stayed on our team and waited to move up, mainly because we started the team in 8u and partly because it's local and I don't want to drive to north Dallas or Plano/ Frisco to play. We got moved to majors about halfway through the spring of 9u. It's definitely a big jump.

We played a lot of open tourneys and majors teams before we got bumped, I've gone over our record before but we were 12-0 against AAA teams 5-16 against majors teams.

We have closed the gap for sure, I still think we are right under the top tier (2 or 3 teams locally) of majors teams, but we added 3 players this spring that should give us a good push.

Here was our 9u USSSA page, although we played a few more tournaments with travel sports that aren't on there.

Yes, the portable canopy things are a must.

Worth their weight in gold! Bring mister fans too. We went mid July and the humidity is brutal.

I now wish we would have started a season or two earlier in Select ball. Would have liked to have gotten on a team like that and developed.

I have definitely heard of yalls team following the page on facebook. Our team is a new AAA team, and no shot at getting bumped to Majors. Bombers and the Eagles seem to be that level you are talking about if I'm not mistaken.

I used to laugh at the parents bringing the little wagon type devices and being loaded down.

Then I went to a couple all day affairs and realized I needed one as well, lol.

Yep, They are the top 2 locally for sure, and there are a few teams from south Texas that come up and play, mizuno and dynasty that are tough too. We added the best player from the Citius team, the 3-hole hitter from the CCBA team and a kid from the eagles that looks like he will be our shortstop, so I'm excited to see how do.

It sounds like you guys are on the right track, it's more about development at this age, and if you guys are happy with the practices and reps he's getting you are ahead of the game. I feel like Brock went though 7u and 8u without much help coaching wise, all my fault as I was just getting started with all this, but we are in a good spot now.
