Default Good old days of TBH

This may have been brought up before. But there were a few of us posting in a past thread about TBHrs that have been on this site for 10 years or more, and how it has changed and evolved to what it is now of over 40,000 folks!Wow, when I joined in 2008, there were only 10,000 members. Sure has grown fast and is a great site.
But lets talk about the good old days of TBH. About the comeraderie and stories when it was just a small group of guys and a few gals smack talking and having fun. Ive heard stories from the beginning crew of TBH, and found them quite humorous. Lets hear them. Just be careful...LOL

I wanna say I joined in 2001 and really wanted to be annointed with the coveted "Velvet Elvis" like the "clique" had been.

Come to think of it, I still shoot the SQ2 that brought me to TBH while researching it...

First rule of "Javelina Kicking Fight Club" is not to talk about "Javelina Kicking Fight Club".

Now, Stratton vs. the shotgun was a classic.

Ahhh... the coveted Velvet Elvis... I never did get one but always wanted to.

I remember the crash before the big crash - I was in a stand up argument and was frustrated I couldn't pull it back up. Then, just before the big one, I was in another argument and the big crash came. I decided not to argue around here anymore. Rather have good hearted discussions and throw in some good stories.

I joined very early, I don't remember the exact date, but I only had dial up internet and had to choose my threads very carefully as it took about 5 minutes to open one, and no way were you going to see a pic.

It is has been a great site over the years and have many many close friends that I met here.

Had to have been around 2003 when I first joined. Had a VE and remember all the live hunts. Had a family feel to it that somehow even survives to this day despite its enormous growth. TBH is the one site I refer my bow shop customers to when they are looking for resources about bows and hunting.

Years ago, 2004 or 2005, I met up with a member and gave him my Browning bow because I bought an SQ2. I gave it to him for free because he had a brother who couldn't afford one but was interested in trying bowhunting out. I have wondered over the years if I help create another bowhunter out there somewhere.

I joined in 2003 also doing research on hunting the "H" place. I got a few VE's and lost some good stories during the crash. I think I had more posts in those three years than I have had since 2006. Good times!

I been a member since 01 I beleive. I also use to enjoy reading and checking out the do it your self camera threads. I have hunted alone for years and those times back then TBH was my campfire. I couldn't wait to get back and read all the stories. The BOA threads and pics from TRAILBOSS and many others. Now it seems the more controvery the thread it is the more attention it gets. Those days there was more sharing of family sharing. Now some good family type or meanigful threads get no attention. They just get lost. IDK! Still stuck here. LOL

I am pretty sure it was my freshman year at UT which would have been the Fall of 98, but that was a long time ago. The first thread I remember is Casey talking hunting in Purmela that got me started. The screen was white, you didn't have to register to post back then, and the members policed themselves..........for the most part.

My other old memory is sending Casey $20 to buy Michael a bow. I think I had about $73 dollars in my checking account back then in college, but it was something I wanted to due even though I couldn't afford it.

Somewhere, I think I still have an Olympus D-380 that I never got around to converting because it was the only digital camera I had....the cards looked like a 3 1/2 "floppy".

This was the 1st forum I ever looked at.
TBH was responsible for my getting my 1st email account, paypal account (ground breaking stuff right there), and "Carbon arrows"...woooooohoooo.

I went to Big Buck Brewery the week after I joined and met Rudey, "Obsessedhunter", Richard....and Charles I believe. Rudey and Humper invited Trey and I to Bownanza which was coming up the next week. After we left, Trey said "we should try that Bownanza some time". I said "Not sure about you chief, but I'm tryin it next weekend!" We drug a trailer load of grill, smoker, fish cooker, and everything else. When I saw the equipment everyone else had, we never un-loaded a bit of it. Met Joey, Sherry, and Cody as soon as we got out of the truck.

Drake's alter ego "ToroJohn" was one of my favorite runs on TBH. Not to mention "Nightstalker" Ol "Nightstalker" which I guess was Breck goofin off, told AggieBowman he was gonna gather up all his friends and come whip his butt.....to which Jason replied "big ones line-up, little ones bunch up!" One of my all time favorite lines.... along with "left eye dominate home protection, courtesy half cocked nit-wit", from Legdog.

Remember "Anonymous" posts?
