Time really flies it seems. This is something I have stated looking forward to very much as the weather slowly gets colder and colder.
My grandfather was in the 99th infantry division in WW2. He fought in the Ardennes forest, spent the winter of 44-45 in a foxhole facing a barrage of artillery fire, and led one of the first groups of men across the bridge at remagen. He was the recipient of a bronze star and 2 Purple Hearts because of his bravery. He played a very important role in my life in showing me how humility comes before honor and how to live a Godly life.
He died 3 years ago after a long fight with dementia and failing health. He was a true example of a real man.
I spent and still spend quite a bit of time in the bush and when I would return to visit he would always say that "he's returned from the woods." He always loved hearing about my various adventures in guiding and mountaineering. He never truly had a bad day after the war because in his words, "well, no one was shooting at me so today wasn't so bad."
Because of this I got the idea to keep a military member warm for a hunt by giving them a Sitka jacket and a pair of wool socks. (Wool socks in a foxhole was gold to my grandpa and was the reason he was able to keep his feet healthy)
The rules are simple:
You can nominate yourself, friends on tbh or anyone who has served or is still active service
Winner is picked from a hat where all people nominated will have a name tag in
November 28 at the end of the day will be the cut off for entries
The Sitka jacket will be delivered in person to the winner!
Happy Thanksgiving and thank you to all of our service men and women!
