    Trolling Motor Advice

I am looking to get a trolling motor for one of those small two man pond boats. I have no idea where to begin. It will primarily be used on a small pond about 1 acre in size, but may be used on bigger ponds in the future. Any suggestions?

Get the highest thrust 12 volt you can. Go with a hand control unless you have enough room for a pedal on the floor in front of you.

Do you already have the boat?

I agree, brand won't really matter on the 12V models, minn kota or motorguide both are good

I agree with Minn Kota. I would go with the 45lb.

                What about shaft length?

The biggest one you can fit. I get mine at Autozone & have had good luck with them. But have never had a problem with the Walmart ones.

                      Probably the short one.

May be a stupid question, but do you need to get a marine battery or waterproof battery or will a regular car battery work?

Marine dual purpose. Don't get a marine starting battery.

Any 12 volt battery will work in a pinch. But if are going to purchase a battery just for the trolling motor then get a deep cycle or dual purpose. The higher the amp hour rating the better. Try to get 100 or more amp hour rating. A dual purpose battery might not list the amp hour rating. So you mite have to do some investigating, if you decide to go with the dual purpose. And dont forget a good battery charger. Charge the battery before the first trip and then after each trip from then on.
