    Pin Distances

I just started shooting a bow and got a great deal on a set up used bow from a TBHer. It has a 5 pin Spot Hogg Hogg-IT sight.

What distances do you typically set up your pins for? I have just been shooting from the 1st 2 pins set at 20 and 30.

Should I set them like this?

    1 - 20
    2 - 30
    3 - 40
    4 - 50
    5 - 60

I actually start my pins at 10 yards rather than 20. You never know how close you might get.

that would work well... or you can be like my uncle... who is crazy but it works for him, he goes 20-35-50-60-75... Don't ask, he just wanted to be able to show off at 75... I don't think he has ever used farther than the 35 pin on an animal.

Depends on your bow set up

                Mine

                1-25
                2-40
                3-50
                4-60
                5-70

Pin 1 is good to 30

I had a 5 pin but removed one of the pins to cut down on the clutter. Get at 20, 30, 40, and 50. I could go with a 3 pin sight because I would never try and shoot a deer at 50 yds, maybe an elk but don't see any elk hunts in my near future.

When I did shoot multiple pins I had mine at

                    20
                    30
                    40
                    50
                    60
                    70

I have a 5 pin slider sight and love it. My 5 pins are 20,30,40,50, and 60 then I have a slide on it so I can move it and my bottom pin will go out to 120

I've yet to find a bow that shoots any different at 10 than they do at 20. Just my opinion but a 10 yard pin is useless.

Agreed. It's a good thing too because you are able to sight in your bow at 10 yards, making it much easier, and it should be really close to identical at 20. Unless you have somethin' slow as molasses.
