DIY Easy Shelter - Pallets + Hog Panel

We were in the need of a shelter to sit under in the rain or get out of the wind while at the lease. Google is your friend.

Looked at several possibilities and wanted to keep it under $150 total in material.

    We got 10 pallets (3'x4'), three 50" x 16' hog panels, 10 T-Post, tie wire, nails, a 20' x 30' tarp, and couple 2'x4's.

I'll let the pics do the rest of the talking.

Total bill since we had everything except the tarp and panels is $120. Total dimension is 9' x 12'.

Did you make sure the pallets you got are not the kind that give you cancer?

Now you've got me thinking about a carport at our cabin. Only downside I see is having to periodically replace the tarp unless you spent the money for a heavy duty one like used on big rigs.

I think he might have been talking about pallets are used to transport many things , even barrels of chemicals , some which are bad stuff , and sometimes these get spilled on and soak into said pallets , which could cause you health problems from breathing the fumes in a confined space . If that was not what he was talking about I`m sure he will elaborate on what he did mean .

By the way , I think that is pretty cool and functional

Google it. I'm not trying to dog your project but you might not want to "laugh out loud" about whether you used a type of pallet wood that is treated with method bromide.

Looks good and that's a pretty clever idea.

Don't eat, sleep or make babies on the pallets. You'll be fine.

Everything I was reading says dust from cutting it, working with the pallets for crafts, and having them in your home could be harmful. These were feed pallets (bags of cattle feed) and this will only be used 8-10 times a year. We did not cut any of the pallets and they had been baked in the sun for months. Highly doubt it's anything to worry about. If they were furniture or decorations in my home oor if Iwas eating off of it as a table at camp I would be a little more worried.

That's awsome. I was just thinking of building a pen for the dogs at the lease and this will work perfect.
                            Thanks for posting.
