Default Sweet piece of property

Former hydroelectric plant. 1100 acre lake with amazing fishing. Used to fish it when I was younger. I'm a little short on cash. Anybody wanna go halves?

Wish the government would buy it and make a state or national park. Some of the best fishing and duck hunting in the country. Spent many days out there as a kid. Lots of snakes too!

I'll bet properties in that price range and higher change hands pretty often - we just don't hear about it. Heck, the Waggoner Ranch was purchased last year - by an individual - for $725 million.

I can't imagine owning a property with a 1,000 acre lake on it. I would prefer that to a prime deer hunting ranch any day. (of course, that place probably has plenty of nice deer too)

We did the dam inspection. Quite a bit of liability with that large body of water. There is some headcutting downstream of the dam that will eventually need to be addressed. $$$$

Yes sir. Read "The Buffalo Creek Disaster" if you want a pucker moment! That will scare you away from buying any property with big water and a dam.

Could the lake be drained and back to a creek/river?

Wouldn't that dryland be worth more than the lake?

That was one of my first thoughts

Maintenance on the dam alone would take a good amount

Other thought was buy it, fire that power plant up and start making payments

I saw the building with all of the high wires coming in (going out)

Might be able to make the down payment with scrap

The tower with the eagle could stay, the rest of it would have to go if not active

If I had the money I would be looking at Sandow Lakes, old Alcoa property east of Austin

More bang for the buck but 33,800ac at $250 million

That’s one of the best fishing lakes I’ve ever been to. Spent many days there as a kid. It was a private lake owned by the power company my dad and uncle worked for (TP&L) and you had to call ahead to make a reservation to get access (best of my recollection). No telling how many fish we caught there.

Besides the price, the liability with owning a high hazard dam would scare the crap out of me. Sure wish I could fish it again though.

Nope. It's was a who ya know deal back in the 80s- early 90s. One of my friends dads worked the night shift. We'd go with him to work and catfish all night in the discharge channels. Insane catfishing.

They kind up clamped down on access after someone got shot duck hunting out there.

if I'm looking at the maps right, it sure seems like a lot of the acreage is lake. I can't see paying that much for a lake. And the land is mostly around the lake. There's not a large piece not adjoining the lake.
