    Kolaches, PLEASE READ

The West Kolache thread prompted me to dig up this article.
As a Czech it covers a sore spot for most of us.
As for the best Kolaches? My grandma is long gone, the best I have found are at Weikels in LaGrange. Don't remember which place I tried in West, but they were GARBAGE,,,,

Man I have not been to Weikel's in a long time. That place does have GREAT kolaches. I just never get down that way much anymore. They used to have great jerky also.

Well as a member of a family who owned a Bakery in West, I have tried the ones in LaGrange and they were not all they are cracked up to be. Calling the West Kolache's Garbage is a little harsh. Not sure where you got them from but anything on the highway except for the sausage (klobasniky) from Slovaceks is not nearly as good as down town.

Best I ever had isn't really a Klobasnek as its not Czech but German so called a sausage roll, a "Würstchen im Schlafrock". It was at the German Bakery towards the end of Main in Fredericksburg. Its a full sized homemade sausage in the dough about 1/2 lb and they are the best.
