Hand painted. Do not have to worry about rust dirt or rain. Just clean the barrel and action and keep going. 5.56. Takes down hogs, deer, squirrel and everything in between.

I've changed the scope out since this pic. It was wearing a Leupold VX2 and is now wearing a Sig Whiskey 3 3-9X40. Changed the crappy factory trigger out to a CMC as well. It shoots sub MOA now. I've killed a LOT of schitt with this gun.

6.5G, black one is actually AR10. Haven't killed anything yet, neither has been fired. Been thinking of selling the AR10 .308 as took it on trade.

Default AR 15 HUNTING Rifle picture thread

The first rifle is my .223 calling rig. This rifle started life as a Ruger AR-556 even though there's not much left of it any more. I added a free float rail, Larue MBT trigger (Has a CMC in the picture), Larue grip (Has a Magpul in the picture, Magpul STR stock, Sig Sauer Scope, Strike Industries extended charging handle, and a cheap bipod.

This setup will shoot Freedom Munitions 55 grain soft points Sub-MOA all day long.

Next is my 6.5 Grendel AR pistol that I primarily use for hogs. I built this rifle with a Mega Lower, CMC 3.5 LB Flat trigger, CMC LPK, Magpul Grip, KAK Shockwave Blade Brace, Mega Billet Upper, Toolcraft BCG, Strike Industries Extended Charging Handle, Ballistic Advantage 12.5" 6.5 Grendel Barrel, Matrix 11" free float handguard, and a Primary Arms 1-6x Scope.
This rifle also consistently shoots Hornady 123 grain SSTs sub-moa even with the short barrel and low powered scope.

I have both of these with me anytime I am at the lease. I run them dirty and dry with no issues. The bottom has a nickel plated bolt, you can see she is dirty!

14.5" Adams piston 5.56, my brush gun for coyotes and sometimes pigs. Everyday load is a 65 SGK with a healthy dose of Benchmark. This gun rarely leaves my truck, rides everywhere. Cerakoted in Burnt Bronze.

FullSizeR by , on Flickr

16", 6.5 Grendel gas gun, also use it for coyote calling and it is my go to pig gun. I shoot a 123 SST in it. Cerakoted myself in RAL-8000. Neither of these rifles get babied one bit.

Default AR 15 HUNTING Rifle picture thread

My 300BLK is my go-to rifle. It is a frankenrifle, made up of the parts I wanted. Stoner Barrel, YHM handguard, Hogue grip, Ace stock, SWFA 6x scope, TSC suppressor. I had a friend Cerakote it the tan color.

I try to take good care of it, but it does get banged around, dirty and scuffed.

I shot this pig at 300 yards that night. The next morning, I shot a coyote at 310 coming in to check out this pig.

Weíre always at war with the darn coons. Twerpasaurus holds the record for the most in one melee. She did this at 100 yards, at 10:00 at night. She was using the EWT light.

This pig was a jumbo. I shot him on my birthday a few years back.

This is my 223. Itís fun to shoot, and Iíve used it quite a bit as well. It is downright fugly, but shoots really good. I plan to put the Aimpoint on something else, and add a 1-8x on it sometime soon.

I donít have many LDPís with it. Iím far too lazy to document everything I shoot.

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately...

I have three ARs, that I hunt with. The first one, I have had the longest and killed the most with. It's just a cheap Bushmaster 5.56 carbine, that I have changed out some pieces on, but it still has the stock Bushmaster chrome lined barrel, upper and lower receivers, then the bolt carrier. I have killed a lot of coyotes with it, one buck and one large hog.
The second AR, is a 270 AR, it was supposed to have been a 6.5 Grendel, but I got talked into building a 270 AR. Pretty impressive round, basically duplicates 270 Win. factory ballistics, to some degree. I built it using a billet side charge upper and a billet lower. I have killed two mule deer with it, so far.
My third AR, that is not completed yet, just needs a muzzle break, then for me to load some ammo. It's a 458 SOCOM. I have not had a big bore gun in a long time, I think this should be a interesting gun, when it's done. I used the same brand of billet side charge upper and billet lower for the 458. I hope to get the opportunity to shoot something large with it. From what I have read on 458 SOCOM ballistics, they are pretty impressive for the size of the round. The 458, has been my cheapest AR, so far, half of the parts I used, were left overs from other ARs. The 270 AR, was pretty expensive, I would not do that again.
I still want to build a 6.5 Grendel, but it will be a while before I can afford to do that.

Looking good. Just as i expected not alot of fancy 3 gun scopes or red dot setups. Mainly 16" barrels with 3x9 or 4-12 40mm . Low powered scopes are nice but deer hunting requires more than 4x. Especially in ar counties or managed places where being hard on antlers is a must. Hopefully it will help someone looking to decide on certain things. Alot of the gadgets look cool but not practical. Dont get me wrong the other ar thread is awesome but some are safe queens misrepresenting what a working ar looks like.

interesting that I haven't seen anyone put up a 6.8 yet, lots of 6.5g

I've got a complete lower that's been in the safe for almost 2 years while I decide what to put on it for a hunting rig and this thread may have pushed my decision over to the 6.5

with the quality bullets being made in the 6.5 world and the early issues with head spacing and cracked bolts behind the 6.5G, it's really starting to take off.

Just bought some of the new Federal Fusion 62 grain MSR in .223. Leaving tonight on a 3 day/2 night Hunt. Gonna give it a try. Had some good results on ballistic gel anyways. We will see what it does on some flesh and bone.
