If it's really a Model 25-2, it cannot be stainless steel. The stainless steel version is the Model 625. If yours appears to be stainless, it is either nickel (factory or aftermarket) or some other kind of finish like chrome, Armorloy, etc. Open the cylinder and look into the frame recess for the model number and verify its a Model 25-2. Then look at the rear face of the cylinder for a capital "N". If you see a capital "N", that indicates a factory nickel finish. I've never seen a factory nickeled Model 25, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. A Model 25 in and of itself is a pretty desirable gun - they don't make them anymore, and a S&W N-framed revolver is pretty desirable. Please report back with your findings and it will help in trying to pin down a market range for the piece. Also, I know it may be a hassle, but photos would really help.

    Regards,

    Dave

They did make the 25-5 with a nickel finish for an additional fee but the 25-2 did not come with a nickel finish.

As for value these numbers are a couple of years old but might help you.

What about this Ruger M77 MKII, .223, 20" barrel, manufacture date in 1989..... Has an old 4x Weaver scope on it.
