I was blessed again this morning with a great hunt. After getting my wife her bird on opening morning it was my turn today. It was dead calm this morning which allowed me to use a locator call before daylight to find where this bird was roosted. I worked my way into a field 200 yards from where he was and got set up before day break. He gobbled probably 50 times on the roost then once he flew down I started lightly calling and he would answer each time. For an hour he would not come out into the field but he continued to answer my calls. He finally came to the edge of the field and once he saw my 1/2 strut jake and hen he covered the last 75 yards pretty quick. I was by myself this morning as the girls wanted to sleep in so I let him put on a show. Spitting, drumming, pecking and generally abusing the jake for 20 minutes before I took my shot. Not my best bird ever but a good one and I am very thankful for him. 9.5" beard, 1" and 1 1/4" spurs.
