I am still struggling with it. I have gone every year since 1982 on Thanksgiving weekend but really don't want to drive 6 hours to sit in the cabin and watch it rain.............but it is a tradition!!!!

As of now, I am backing out. I have two options (1 in East Texas and 1 in South Texas).
Both are looking bad. I am watching closely though.

I canceled my plans to go. I'm more worried about the possibility of icy roads and having a hard time getting home. I could sit all day in a box blind with a rifle, a heater, a thermos full of coffee, and a good book. But a 4.5 hour drive in good conditions could get crappy in a hurry if you add a little ice which is forecasted for the Quanah area where I hunt.

We are gonna hunt it out. Shouldn't be too bad in the Karnes County area. Only calling for some showers Saturday and Sunday. Friday may be a different story, but you can't kill nothin sitting at home, and we have a massive hog problem. You could say I'm pretty mad at them. Also, we are staying for 6 days this time, and Monday-Wednesday don't look that bad. If the weekend is a shutout, we might could see something during the week

We seem to be in a pattern where the crappy weather always falls on the weekend. Howling 30mph winds last Saturday, heavy rains this Saturday. My lease is only 1 1/2 hours away - I wish I could just up and go when the conditions look good instead of circling weekends months in advance around all the other stuff we have scheduled and hoping for the best.

Kid had a 4 wheeler wreck yesterday and is on crutches. I wouldn't go but he asked this morning if we can just go sit in a blind this weekend. He cant run around with his friends or chase his girlfriend who is out of town. Figure I better hit him up and go sit with him as he is chasing those other does these days.

Our camp is not do-able when it is wet. That slick clay ground makes getting into/out of camp impossible and we are not going to destroy the cabins with mud, ect. and rut up the roads on someone elses property. We will go out there and park at the gate and walk to our stand when it stops raining on Sunday.

Dang. You aint making it any easier...lol. I still really want to go but the forecast will have to change dramatically by tomorrow night. If i were hunting in a blind it would be a different story but I just sneak around on the 1100 acres. Not gonna be great stalking weather. This place is only hunted one weekend every year or two by me and my wife's cousin and i'm not allowed to put any stands or feeders. But dang...you keep talking peak rut and I might have to brave the ice and rain.

Default Weekend weather....

I will most likely hunt in a pop up if there are any breaks in the rain. But I'm only 20 minutes away. Abt 5/8 mile walk in. Plus it's doe weekend

Have never missed hunting the weekend after Thanksgiving. Either gone after the mulies out in west Texas or white tail close by.

I'm going to make the awful 40 minute drive to my place and hunt dadgummit! Those Deerview windows in my stand will keep me dry

I dont mind the drive or the rain but the mess we create by slopping around the farm and camp house isnt worth it. General opener we made one heck of a mess!!!

So i'll pick up a couple shifts at the stadium working HS playoff games to make some Santa Claus money.

I've got paying hunters coming Thursday night, rain or shine. I can sit in a rifle blind with a heater and watch them bowhunt, or they can sit with me and rifle hunt. Either way I'm fine with it.

Supposed to be icy in the Panhandle beginning Thursday night. I'll be playing it by ear on the hunting. I'm hoping to be able to get out, but it might not be possible.

No way I would miss this weekend. Best Thanksgiving weather we've had at our ranch in the panhandle in about 4-5 years. Last 2 years it's been in the 70s and 80s most days. Precipitation is supposed to be gone by lunch Saturday so that leaves us with 2 full days of hunting thru Monday lunch. In fairness, spotting rutting mule deer and whitetail out of a truck is not like trekking out to a blind or hill top to sit in it all day.

For the first time in a while, I haven't given a crap about the weather. I don't go out during Thanksgiving and my wife really likes to cook it up and we usually have family come in from out of town.

Can't say I am sad about it either. Put in a lot of work this year. 3 weekends to finally get my first deer with a recurve during gun opener... followed that up the following weekend with getting my son his first ever deer!

Going to sit home, relax, and devour a few pumpkin pies.... I have so much to be thankful for this season!

Good luck to all you guys/gals this week/weekend. Be safe!

A hyper-extended knee and this weather forecast does not make for a good hunt scenario for a fatboy. Neither does dragging one out. I'm gonna rest the knee one more week and try to make it down every weekend but Christmas from here on out.

Going but not looking forward to the wet/muddy ride to and from the blind. I hate getting wet going to the blind. Have to wear raingear just to be able to get to the parking places then walk thru mud to get to the blinds. Makes for an unpleasant hunt.

Sorry to hear about the knee. As a fellow who carries a bit too much weight myself and 2 knee surgeries and damaged cartilage... I know what you are going through. Not only is slick and muddy not good on the knee... neither is sitting still 2x a day for 3-4 hours at a time in the cold.
