Just depends on how traditional you want to get.

Patched round balls go way back to mountain man days.
Flint lock goes back further than that.
      They are all fun

Ok. In a percussion can it fire round and sabots?

Ok thanks. Why would you pick a 50 for sabots? Will a 54 not do as well with sabots? Sorry I know I can find a lot of info online, but I also like asking questions directly to people who know what their doing, unlike me! Lol.

Most of the developmental work on sabots was with the .50, as there just wasn't much interest in the .54. The sabots for the .54 used the same bullets as used in the .50 which meant a thicker sabot had to be used in the .54. The petals in the .54 sabot did not always peel back as uniformly as the .50 which effected the accuracy.

Great! Thank you. I found the Lyman deerstalker online, looks pretty decent. Reviews are great. It’s really perked my interest. I’m not into hunting with bolt guns, (or in line muzzleloader) at least not near like I am with my bow, but traditional black powder is very appealing.

May I ask what the price range is for the October rifles and are they made in USA? I have been looking at WB Selb for a rifle build, but this is the first time I have heard of October.

you can get a Liver eating Johnson .54 for around $2,000.00
The big stuff starts around $4,000.00 and goes up depending on what all you want to add
