    Heart of Texas Bowhunting

How is the Heart of Texas Bowhinting Lease?

    #2
It's well run by great people. You'll see lots of deer and like any other day lease have a chance at a good deer. They’re all hard hunting and can be some of the most challenging you can do outside of public land. At the same time they're fun and rewarding.

Check out their FB page, some good deer have been killed this year including a brute by Kevin this weekend.

Like any other places, you have to brush in well beyond normal and then brush in some more. I actually look for a small grove of oaks with lots of underbrush and try to cut a hole in the back side if possible. Then you just have to lay some brush over the top and ensure that you're backside or entry is brushed.

Hunt long into the day and try to have a backup for wind switches if you have a front coming. Look for a semi-open area where two or three trails come together in route to the feeder. Remember, you can’t hunt over the feeders or water troughs. One the first evening which is scout and setup day, broadcast a good bit of hand corn in an attempt to snag any deer moving through the area then reduce the amount of corn to just your shooting range. Don’t put out too much corn in the evening as it could reduce your morning activity. Lastly, try to put a little extra corn around bushes or cactus as it distract the deer a bit while eating allowing for an easier shot.

Brush up really well on how to judge a 120" 8 point deer.

Here’s a picture of my last set a few years ago. Good luck and have fun.
