    From Gate to picture frame!

My wife does a lot of cross-stitching and on some special ones I'll make frames for her. The couple I lease from celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year so we made this for them. Its started as a wooden gate that use to be in the fence row on their property and after he had the fence rebuild it made its way to my woodshop. Here it is along with other "reclaimed wood".

These pictures are of another frame I did at the same time so the process is the same on both of them. First of all think safety!! Yes, I still have all of my fingers!
Hearing protection and a full face shield.

When ever we're doing things close to the blade let's make sure to unplug the saw!

Use a push stick to keep your fingers away from the blade!

Saws unplugged! Measuring and setting fence to cut boards to size, After I cut the boards close I then set the fence and ripped about half a blade thickness off all sides to bring out some non-weathered wood.

Reset fence and cut out the back of the frame for the glass and picture to set in. Didn't have the blade set deep enough and left the corner attached by a thin piece of wood, it snapped right out with a simple twist of the fingers.

Cut the pieces to length with 45 degree ends.
Square frames are real easy especially if you have some handy dandy corner clamps.

Now the frame from the gate. Same process but I also sprayed this with gloss urethane, its still drying so its not together yet. I'll say it, Dang!! That looks good! I really like how the weathered wood and "new wood" give it character. I'll get the two put together Wednesday before I head to my lease.

Thank You. When my wife asked me to make the frame for the first one I told her I was going to do a thread on TBH about it. She just rolled her eyes!
