Default General Season and Day Light Savings

Ok so there will questions concerning what to do during opening weekend of General Season since it will be Day Light Savings as well. Here is what we do.
1. Three weeks out set all feeders to Day Light Savings (Fall Back) time (I already have all mine set to Fall Back even with Bow season). The Deer will adjust.
2. Next, on the Friday before the Saturday opening of General Season, set all your watches/alarm clocks to Day Light Savings (Fall Back) time. If you are using a phone to wake adjust accordingly. Yea I know Day Light Savings doesnít take place until 0200 Sunday but get in that mode on Friday. Better to lose that hour Friday morning trying to get all the time coordinated Sat night.

This has been very helpful to us. Hope it helps.

I bet there will still be a couple threads started about day light Savings and feeder times as we get closer. Happens every year .

I don't change my timer at all. Leave them set for the fall season all year. The deer don't mind.

That makes no sense to me???? I get up on Sat at a time that puts me in the blind an hour before the feeder goes off. When the time changes I do the same thing! Some folks think way too much into really simple things!

Deer don't know there is a time change just get in blind an HR before daylight. Change your timer before you leave on Sunday to match your watch if you need to.

This is why Arizona got rid of daylight savings time. The deer just couldn't adjust.

If my impatient arse gets in the stand an hour before daylight, Iíll be ready to get out 15min before daylight. Itís almost to the point a deer has to want me to shoot it.

We don't mess with the clocks on our timers when the time changes. It makes no difference. The only thing we will do is periodically make slight changes to the feeding times to take into consideration the days getting shorter as we move into the fall.

As far as hunting goes. I hunt a ton of mornings in bow season prior to the time change. Once the time changes, I start hunting more evenings considering the evening hunt starts and ends earlier in the day (based on my wrist watch). I don't mind getting up at 5:00 a.m., but once that time changes, I can't stand getting up at 4:00 a.m. for the same hunt.

^^This^^

I like my feeders to go off in the morning just when it gets light enough to see well. Also set them for early in the afternoon so if I shoot an animal I can track it before dark.

I have this saved on my ranch packing list. “Always set feeders 25 minutes before sunrise. Sunrise changes by 23 minutes every 30 days.” I make adjustments to feeding times during the season.

It is all about your feeder going off at the perfect time, so the deer will start eating while they look like shadows, get comfortable, and have an arrow flung at them early in the morning.

I have already changed mine for the sunrise/sunset for October 1. I never change the times on my feeder. Just adjust my feed times.

This is how poachers get started in their career. They're honest Hunters. They do everything by the book. But they forget to adjust their feeders for daylight savings time. They get out there an hour before dark. The big buck they've been following all year long comes in an hour early because he's confused. He's trying to eat in the dark. The hunter / poacher can't handle this big 278" buck eating corn with a confused look on his face. And he takes a shot that he shouldn't. Thank you US government for creating a whole new batch of poachers.
