Talent is equally distributed, but opportunity is not?

This is the mindset that is emerging...

Heard this on a commercial from an institute of "higher learning". We're in big trouble if this is truly what academia is brainwashing our future with. SMH.

"The world in which we live equally distributes talent but it doesnt equally distribute opportunity and paths are not always the same..."

This was on a commercial for Southern New Hampshire University.

Nothing about hard work or effort

Everybody knows its who you know.

Hard work will take you far, of course, but opportunity is absolutely a thing.

So are varying degrees of talent, intelligence, work ethic, etc...

The answer is D. All of the above.

That's why it's up to responsible parents to teach their kids the truth.

Work ethic is key to a job or career in all fields. Having a degree in basket weaving, ballroom dancing and hamburger flippin' won't get you too far either. Having a marketable talent in a high demand field would be my recommendation.

Somebody has *** backward thinking there.

Everyone has opportunity. Not everyone has ability.

Don’t take words out of your own mouth.

FIRST you said “Everybody knows it is who you know.”
THEN you said “hardwork will take you far.”

Knowing the right people takes hardwork to establish and maintain those connections and leverage them to one’s benefit. I know people born with a silver spoon in their mouth, and all of daddy’s connections at their disposal and squander it all because they didn’t work to cultivate the relationship. Conversely I know folks who came from nothing, knew nobody and WORKED to ask for introductions, didn’t allow fear to paralyze them from going to speak to a powerful person eating at a restaurant (while he was working as a busboy), and joined organizations and associations so they could foster relationships.

Hardwork beats talent and will pave the way to “who you know.”

I don't think there is any question that opportunity is not evenly distributed. Why else would we hold in such high regard those who "came from nothing" and became successful? I am all for doing what we can to provide more opportunities to anyone with ambition, work ethic and the discipline to delay gratification.

There is a built in fix within the idea of America for opportunity disparity. It is the ability to create your own opportunity. However, an overbloated government has all but destroyed that.

Southern New Hampshire University is just playing to their customer base. The vast majority of their students are either people who dropped out of college and want to finish a degree years later or never went to college in the first place and are trying to start a degree later in life. Of course they’re going to market to them.

It’s like a weight loss commercial saying “Do you just not have time to workout or eat healthy?”
