    Back to square 1.

As some of you know from the "you be the guide" thread, I was chasing a pretty nice 10. He had double split brows and would go near 160. Well, he broke the left fork early, but the right fork was intact as of 10/15.

I knew he was kind of weak in mass and would break up when the fighting started, but crud, couldn't he have waited awhile. He was starting to show closer to daylight and it was just a matter of time. On about the 23rd, he showed up missing his right brow and left split.

We've already witnessed some fights that belong closer to the rut in their viciousness. There's going to be a lot of breakage this year, I fear.

Talking to Keith, he agreed that since he broke so badly and the fact that he's a protein hound lately, though this is the first year we've seen him using it, that he'll get another year and see what he does. He'll be too big for me, but whould go ahead and break that 60 mark.

Noce deer. But WOW boy, do you ever have a healthy herd of coons!

Actually, there's 11 fewer coons now. My brother and I .17'd them pretty hard. Next time down, we'll use saturation trapping to reduce them more, and then some more .17ing.

You need to thin those coons out.

I've got a couple more candidates already. I'll post the pics when I capture stills off my video. One is WIDE with short points. The other is a pretty, typical 12 that is similar to the one in my avatar.

                    Sorry to hear it John.

The non-typical I was after this year was already broken up two weeks ago.

Not that it is any of my business, but what do you mean by this statement?

"too big for me" means that he'll bd more than I want to spend. There's a "per inch" fee over a certain size. This deer could advance into the big dollar per inch fees next year. I'm trying to stay under 160. My brother killed a 10 yesterday evening that scored 159 5/8. That's what I want to do. LOL For you Rage fans, he killed it with a 3 blade Rage. Hard quarter and the arrow went from behind the ribs, through the chest and lodged on the opposite side heavy neck with just the tip sticking out. About 2 foot of penetration with a 60 lb bow.

Here's a candidate that had intrigued me from these pics. I like WIDE deer and this one appears to have long beams and wide spread. Not much on points, but I just HAD to find him. This pen had been shut down shortly after these pics and who knows where he'd be. The quest began in ernest Friday.

Here are his TC pics. Still in velvet.
