    Wood Measuring/Cutting Question

Im replacing the underside of a patio ceiling and need some help. I thought it was square but then after pulling a tape on it i realized the rectangle piece Im replacing is not square but has angles. Its roughly 4'x3'. Ive attached a rough sketch of the shape. Does anyone know how to measure the angles and then cut plywood out to the same shape?

    Thanks for the help

Use a speed square, sliding tee bevel or protractor to find the angle of the existing price and transpose it to the new piece.

Make the red lines 90 degrees from the top and bottom ones, then measure from where they hit the opposite side-the end of the skinny angle.

This is assuming opposite sides are parrallel.

        Dale beat me to it.
Assume the long edges are parallel, then square across and measure to both ends.

All you have to do is measure one side
                Then the other side
Then draw a line. Connecting them together

Take the old piece down, lay it on the new piece and trace

Doing a custom fit I see. After doing some remodeling on my house I came to the conclusion that the builders didn't own a tape measure. Good luck!

                          Measure twice
                          Cut once
                          Force it to fit
