    Marlin 45-70 stainless Grey laminate

What is one of these going to cost me with a JM stamp and where is best place to look?

    Daughter wants one for Christmas

Check out the new(er) 1895SBL. Not going to be JM stamped but I’m willing to bet it would be just as likely to be accurate.

Agree. The post 2015 or so Marlins are all really good.

JM stamped is gonna be expensive. Does she want the carbine or the rifle version?

          Don't think it matters.

She said she wanted one "like the guy on Wind River had"

I have a Marlin 45-70 SBL with the large loop lever that is not JM stamped and it has been a wonderful gun. Mine is probably 4 years old and I would not hesitate to buy another one.

You better poop or get off the pot though because the prices have already been rising again because of the acquisition by Ruger. Folks are worried about a break in production.

Interested to hear replies. Been looking for one of these similar carbine models for bear protection when fishing in bear country.

Might find someone that has one and let her shoot it, before buying.

I’ve been looking at the Marlin SBL 45-70s. My dad and I are both wanting one. There’s doesn’t seem to be many out there, and they’re running about $1500 now.

I had a late model big loop and it was very, very well made. I wouldn't hesitate to get another "non JM stamped".

Dang it, BT-- I clicked this thread hoping for at least a picture of one. Wouldn't mind a companion to my grey laminate 336XLR
                        Good luck with finding one!

That’s literally the 1895SBL. They’re around $1100 new but currently bringing a premium because they’re hard to get. I’m not willing to sell mine but if you’re stuck on a JM I’d sell my 1895G ported JM, believe it’s like new.

                            I'm not stuck on anything

I figured you could pick a new one up for ~$900

Guess I should have done some research on price first

Might have to regroup at $1500
