I really like Midway as well, and I love Memphis Belle, but that's probably just because I used to watch it with my grandad who was a B-17 pilot. Apparently I need to re-visit Platoon.

Stalingrad is pretty awful as far as the grim reality of war and the depressing experience of seeing all of your friends die one by one as you try to carry on and survive.
