Whole home water filtration system

Hey fellas, looking into a whole home water filtration system. Any experiences, opinions or recommendations ?

is there a difference between this and a softener? We added a kenitico softener back in December and it has been great.

I ordered one from flecksystems.com and installed it myself. When I finally followed their instructions, it worked great. Plus I saved ton of money over hiring it out.

I'm interested in a small but cheap water filter that I can add to my home, while I am re-doing the plumbing with Pex. I see some brands that have a clear plastic housing, and some have a temp range. I was planning on mounting the filter in the attic, and changing it every few months, but the temp range in Houston CAN be quite drastic at times. Not trying to sidetrack the OP, sorry.

We have a Reverse Osmosis System for drinking water and it works great. We also have a water softener along with a chlorinator to tame the well water.
