I did yesterday. And was paying for it last night, even with getting some help getting my gear out on a game cart. Feel-n better today .

One more weekend for a red-meat hunt.

I'll make you a better deal. I'll give you some thick winter socks, and an orange hat.

Got to many pairs and can't wear them all. Beautiful sunset by the way.

LW, that moss green crawdad with the red flakes looks killer! Bet that black and blue would put the hammer down on the bass right now too.

You gearing up to fish this spring? Get any done this past year?

I am still working out the kinks of starting a business. I am currently trying to get a jump on production. I have a ton of interest in the craws. The mold has only been on the market since October.

Finally got around to skinning out the head on my Whitney buck. After I got the hide past the gums, I couldn't help but smile.

How many hunters had this old warrior outsmarted? How many fights had he lost and won? How many storms, droughts and floods had he seen?

I don't know. But my guess is more than his fair share. This is by far the oldest deer I've ever killed, and I have no idea on age!

Anyone got any guesses?

I'm gonna say 8-9, by the tooth aging with a lean more toward 8. Teeth in sandy areas will wear faster.

It's pretty rewarding knowing I took this guy before old age did, because if thats the case I figure he only had one or two more seasons left in him.

He even had a layer of fat around the skin on his skull, which I have NEVER seen.

He was full of whole acorns.

Thanks for the input! I'm hoping to get out and chase hogs before too long.

I noticed a couple of weeks ago that the boat ramp at Kimble was open, just in time to close hunting season. But I haven't seen any campers. Is it just the ramp that's open?

Thanks,

JC

We lucked out without any damage. Got 5" of rain last night quick with a lot of run off. Lake Whiney Marina didn't fair as well from the pictures I've seen. Looks to be destroyed. Anyone know anymore about it?

That's sad LW. I know some folks used to live in some of the cabins there. Also knew someone who had a 38' houseboat on that dock opposite side of the berm of the fishing barge.

Is the fishing barge/store still intact? Or is it sunk? Hard to tell from the photos.

Here's a couple of short videos of below the dam 2016 that I found. Reminds me of old times when I used to walk that cement ledge.

I hooked into a 70lb gator-gar with a banana jig while striper fishing one night on that catwalk. Walked it down that cement ledge to get my jig back. They had both the gen gates open. But not the big gates. That was still a trip fight-n that fish with the current while walk-n that ledge!
