I am interested in shooting a longbow but I have a very long draw length. Im am 6'5" and the last time I actually measured it I was close to 32". Is there anywhere in the Houston area that I can go get measured and possibly try one? I know that many have X amount of pounds at 28"s but Im afraid to just pick one then struggle to shoot it. Any advise deeply appreciated.

Longbows in the Houston area

Not trying to be complicated or disagree, but it may or may not be different. My compound is a set 27" draw and that is what I draw my longbow and recurve to as well. It depends on anchor and form. I draw both types VERY similar and anchor close to the same. sure the actual shot feels, and looks a lot different but my hold position is similar. Wished I knew of somewhere in Houston to help you, I pretty north of that.
-Have you shot traditional bows before? If not. Remember the farther you draw a bow the more poundage you hold. Almost regardless of what you could draw through on a compound I would not suggest trying more than 40 to 45 lbs max at your draw length to get started. Maybe even lighter. The easier it is to draw at first the more you can learn your form and accuracy.

My oldest son is 6'-5", we call him "stretch". I guess it seemed to make sense to me, lol.
Anyways, Talon you're welcome to come by and shoot with me anytime my friend.
