So do we penalize all CHLs for the dummys or just penalize them? Does the whole team run sprints or is the ignorant azz penalized?

I agree. Back when they had re-qualifications, we had 3 of them in my CHL class. One person shot about a 190, one brought a pistol that had been in their car since their class and wouldn't function correctly due to neglect, and the third swept the entire class after his pistol jammed and he wanted to ask the instructor about it. He was escorted off premises. These are people that had been licensed for 2 years! Straight up scary. I've got a number of buddies that have tons of guns but have never taken a class or done anything training wise other than plinking at the house. They have no idea how to properly sweep a cover garment back and draw fast, fumble getting it out, etc. The LTC class is not training, but they seem to think it is, so when we go shoot, it's flat scary. I'd rather spend my cash on ammo and training than more guns than I'll ever shoot personally. I'm not a fan of more .gov regulation, but I might be for that.

So for the record... we all have the "right to carry". However, not everyone is actually competent enough, mature enough and in the right might mind set to do so. Acquiring a LTC in no means imply you are well trained and competent enough to handle a firearm. It means you met the minimum standards, passed a questionnaire after sitting through a class, you don't have a criminal record preventing you from attain one, and you meet the minimum requirement to place bullets on a target.

I did not see a reference above for anyone being "penalized" in any of the above statements.

I meet idiots on every deer lease.

By your logic no human should be permitted to carry a gun.

Police officer shoots himself in the leg during gun safety discussion

You may not like it, but your argument is invalid.

Count your blessings your "Idiot" encounters are limited to Deer leases. I seem to have at least one encounter a day out in public.

Agreed...correction on meeting lots of idiots.... they walk among us in numbers to large to imagine... Some still actually drive around with "BETO" stickers on their vehicles but then I appreciate that, because it's forewarns me of what is behind the wheel.

Agreed-- bad premise.
Ignorance happens, it doesn't give anyone the authority to play arbiter of individual liberty.

Some people should not be allowed to operate a vehicle / boat / plane yet they passed all required fields & still had accidents and/or caused fatalities.

Some people should not be allowed to hunt yet passed their safety yet went onto shoot another person in the field.

Some people should not be allowed to have guns in their house yet a child shoots another child on a regular basis.

Some people should not drink because they kill someone getting behind the wheel.

Do you get it now?? Who get's to decide without free men losing liberty??

Don't tread on me!!

Doesn’t really help your argument. Idiots exist. This isn’t ground breaking information.

I, however, am starting a petition for legislation to make people qualify before being able to post videos. Clearly some people don’t deserve that right.

Jordan Peterson's works on rights vs responsibilities is enlightening on this topic.

There are very few instances where a person's rights should be curtailed but they do exist, and we all agree that they exist despite some folks unwillingness to admit that they believe that.

So yes, some folks, who present a clear and present danger to others may have to be stripped of their right to own a firearm but we have to be very, very, careful to only apply there where it absolutely has to be applied.

90% of cops I’ve seen can’t shoot for crap, and they’re the ones that have all the “training.”

It’s pretty apparent that the LTC program does nothing to keep idiots and people that don’t know firearms from carrying. When I took my class, there was a guy that had barely shot before and couldn’t even hit the target at 15 yards. He got his license same as me. TX needs to do away with the whole thing.

Taking a class and shooting at a target for the first or second time in your life doesn't qualify you to carry a gun. Legally yes, but are you mentally capable? There's immature and stupid people of all walks of life. You can't really regulate stupidity.

People like that guy or anyone else who is careless with a firearm or anything dangerous for that matter will weed themselves out eventually. You can't control what anyone does in this life. You are in control of you and you only. That might be hard for people to accept but I don't have that problem. If you're stupid and I know it I'll stay away from you whether you're carrying a gun or not. Problem solved.

Some good points made here.

My position is clear:

LTC is an infringement

You don’t have to like someone carrying but you or anyone else shouldn’t be able to retract their right if they are legally able.
