This thread is 7 years old.

We are trying to check up on boblee. He had a cancer diagnosis last summer. Praying all is well with him.

boblee was a legend here, and to my knowledge never even mentioned hunting. Some of his threads may have raised some eyebrows, but he was someone I would like to have shared a campfire and a bottle of fine whiskey with. He lived life, at least his last years, on his terms, and he was comfortable with that.

In some of his postings or ramblings as he might say he'd talk about hunting/fishing in his childhood and adult life.

The moral of this story is....if you don't have the talent to win the game...make enough money to buy the trophy.

One of my all time favorite story's by anyone !

I've mentioned a time or two before that I enjoy writing. The mood doesn't come around often, but when it does - it can't be avoided.

My title may or may not be misleading. I really don't have a point to be made, nor do I know exactly where I'm going. I suppose we'll all see. And probably, I'll wish that I hadn't punched the send button tonight tomorrow.

I, our children, her sisters and friends buried my ex-wife the 14th of this month. A sad time.

It's called mortality. We all owe a death. But this thread is not really about death, I don't think... It's more about living.

And where better to talk about living than "Around the campfire"?

The older we become, the less we think about the future - I mean the future, future. Beyond next deer season or whatever our next adventure may be.

We look back. We reflect, we remember, we regret some, certainly, but mostly... we savor. Or at least I do. And it's my belief that one should.

Adventures. Places we've been, things we've done, things we left undone, friends we have and friends that we've buried. Good gundogs that we loved and feel honored to have been owned by.

I'm twice divorced. Good, honest women - both of them. But never in my life has it occurred to me to ask permission or apologize for anything I wanted to do or for any place I wanted to go to or for anything I wanted to buy.

My grandpa and I were listening to the radio the night Ali (then Cassius Clay) put Sonny Liston to the canvas and proclaimed himself to be The Greatest. Time proved him to be right. I've drank tequila with pretty whores in the Mexican border towns, shot more quail in a three day weekend over good dogs than most people will kill in their entire lifetimes, caught smallmouths in the rocky waters of the Oklahoma rivers and the Boundary waters of Ontario, ridden into the Colorado Rockies at dusk. Caught snapper and amberjack and grouper and kings and sharks fishing the blue waters 40 miles offshore. I watched Bob Gibson strike out 17 in a World Series game. I
got to see Mantle and Ted Williams and Willie Mays at their best, in their prime. My son took me to a World series game in '10 at the Ballpark in Arlington and he bought me a beer. He said that was his biggest dream fulfilled.

Those things are just a few, memories that rise to the surface. I could go on and on and on.

But I ain't done yet. I'm applying for my Iowa license this year. I have 4 preference points, slam-dunk to draw out. I've ordered some more of Benny's Sure-Shot punch bait, getting ready to fish when the weather begins to warm. Planning a trip to Hugo to catch some crappie this spring. My daughter and grandbabies are coming this Sunday. I'm gonna put on a pot of beans, bake some cornbread and deep-fry some venison.

And tomorrow at 2 PM sharp, I have an appointment with a 42 year old, blond, independent, $300 per hour escort.

I suppose I've reached a point, though unintended, mostly this thread was about writing. And sharing.

And I just did it.
Bob Lee
