    Black Walnut Risers

Anyone ever made a riser out of black walnut? I lost mine over the weekend. Planning on taking it to the sawmill to get cut up. Thinking about attempting a riser or two. The wife also wants a table.

When I was a kid we moved to Illinois. Lived on an acreage that was loaded with black walnut. Guys would stop and offer to cut one or two down and would pay $200 for a ten foot log. This was close to fifty years ago. I wonder what it sells for now.

Never made one out of black walnut only used Bastogne walnut. I don't know if it would be strong enough on its own for a riser. One piece with the fiberglass all the way would probably be ok but a takedown riser I would want to reinforce it with phenolic, G10, or other woods maybe. In any case you can always have it resin impregnated and it would be good to go then.
