For the 270 vs 308 crowd

The heavier cartridges used to use the argument of energy and penetrating momentum, but with improved bullet technology, lighter cartridges have increased their performance potential. Although the heavier cartridges have as well, the gaps between chamberings have closed some, and there is an argument to be made for why go with overkill (especially recoil) if something lighter will do the job reliably.

All that said, gimme an ‘06 and leave me alone with that 270 silliness.

I really like them both and have a rifle or 2 in both cartridges so its win win for me.

That said my favorite is .257 Roberts.

Do any of you think an animal cares if he’s hit with a .270 or a .308 if it’s hit in the same spot ? I don’t.

I’m about to give mine a make over. New barrel and stock!

That seemed like a whole lot of words to say “it doesn’t matter “

What I do know is for the average range sportsman, if you are shooting anything OTHER THAN a 243, 270, 30-06, 30-30, or 308 with a 4x or 6x scope, you are lying to yourself and may fool some fools.

I like both, but if I had to choose one it would be the 270.

Never had a deer complain about a 270. I have both. If I had a choice it be my 257 Wby Mag. But if those two were the only choices I'd go 270 all day.

And if you think deer & hogs get any deader from a nice custom .308 than my
cheap .270 Ruger American, you are also wrong.

However, high end variable scopes are a huge advantage.

I've always wanted a .257R, but never have had one.

It just sounds like the perfect deer caliber.

I will just keep shooting my trusty .270 Remington.

I have both. A-Bolt in 270 and BAR in 308. Killed deer with both. Don't remember any of the deer saying they would have rather been shot with the other round.
