Thumbs up He Showed Back Up

Every year for the last 3 years this buck has been my target buck. I had him in bow range one time in 2016 and never he presented a shot. He always shows up around late Aug to mid Sept and I will have pics of him off and on all season and then he disappears around late Jan. I have never gotten a pic of him while growing through the summer but he shows up like clock work. I believe he is at least 7 yrs old maybe older. Last year he broke off his left brow tine. I checked cards this past weekend and bam there he was after not a sign of him all summer. I have put in countless hours chasing this buck. Some hunts I stayed in the tree from 5 am till dark. I hope this is the year I can seal the deal with him. and yes this is in East Texas

Deer often move from their summer range to their winter range...this guy has proven that theory. Good luck on him.

He knows what he's doing. Taunting you. Toying with your emotions.

He's probably 5 properties down the road now relaxing on an unhunted tract of peace and quiet.

It may behoove you to go back through all of the photos you have and write down every detail - temperature, time of day, date, moon phase and see if there is a trend - a pattern that emerges.

When you find that pattern, plan to be at the stand 2-3 hours before the pattern suggests.

He's a great buck and deserves the time and effort.

I really hope I can make it happen. We had another buck on this property that my buddy killed in 2015 that we hunted hard for 2 years and it finally happened. He had a broken main beam in 2014. Hopefully this one will work out for me or my wife. We have some really good genetics running around the last few years. I guess the right ones have been breeding.

Beautiful deer definitely mature and great genetics
I’m guessing you already tried the corn pile in a nearby thicket strategy.

I saw a deer like that on the Moore about 2 years ago. Huge body and a chocolate rack. He was moving behind me and I couldn't get turned around in time to get off a shot. I love those thick piney ridges and hardwood bottoms. You never know what is going to walk out.
