    CO Drop Camp Recommendations

Looking to do a first time elk hunt in 2019 with some other first timers. I personally would be game to go either DIY or with a drop camp, but some others are wanting to look at the drop camp option first. Does anyone have any recommendations from people you have used in the past? Does using drop camps potentially increase hunt odds at all? Any additional pros/cons of drop camps that we might need to be aware of? Thanks in advance.

Where do you want to hunt?

Drop camps don't increase your odds of success. Pro, you have a big warm tent, off the ground, sometimes even a floor. That's a pretty huge pro if you have ever spent an extended time in a regular tent, in the rain. Con, you are stuck at your one big warm tent. They are not mobile. If you find elk 10 miles away, either you're hiking it, and spending the night outside, or just writing those elk off.

We don't really have an area that we "have to" hunt. Just where ever we could get in at and receive an OTC tag. We are pretty open to locations.

Drop tent/ outfitter is going to greatly depend on which unit you plan to hunt.

Being mobile while hunting elk is very beneficial and will increase success odds because elk can be in your area one day and gone the next.

Check with JBar H out of Meeker. You may have to have a preference point or wait a year or two depending on the season you want to hunt. They normally have a little bit of a wait on certain seasons. The are a pretty good outfit though.

These people look like they run a good outfit but definitely the most expensive drop camp I have ran across so far.
